If you have a few, you can stuff them into a milk crate on its side and cut quite a few at one time

Put a mark in your splitter for you maximum allowable split length. Then you can catch if a peice is too long before it is split.

When you are cutting on the hot miserable days, the longer you cut, the longer the pieces get...just lazy human nature. Or maybe classify it as trying to be more efficient and get done quicker?
I'll bet everyone that has cut wood has cut pieces that end up being too long. No big deal, just shorten them up and enjoy.
    Or get a bigger stove!

    Now here's a long one!

I have seen my wood too long realized it but thought I could squeeze it in. Only to have to take a hand saw and hacked a few inches off a burning look in the stove so that I could close the door!:saw::fire:

    +1

I did it with birch, in a hot stove, & the bark caught fire.
can't close the stove door, to full to turn sideways.
Grab , throw in a bucket & run
Birch bark smoke odor lingers for days

Nice, if nothing else, I will get a stick and crayon and just mark before cutting.

IMG_2059.JPG IMG_0598.JPG I've got a Stick with marks going from both ends so you can mark going right left or left right and what ever spray can I can find that's not a color I would use... just don't toss the can towards your saw when your done! Last weekends mistake:D

It's just the bigger rounds I get lost sometimes on as the scale throws my internal measuring eye off. I've gone to using a bar mounted marker in those situations as I hate to have odd cookie slivers. Not a big deal for us as splitter will go 30 inches and stoves will go 4 ft. It's just an ease of stacking thing for us. Seems like the 30 inch and up stuff is what gets me.

    Above are 22 - 24 long rounds

    Below are all 17 - 18 inches

Oooops at least it wasn't all over my ropes and climbing gear that was nearby :D By the way a racing stripe doubles the cc's of the saw :saw:

I cut a lot of wood, using roughly 8 to 10 real cords a year. I mark anything over 12 inches in diameter, since that is close to my limit. Smaller than that, I just free wheel it. Time is money :dex: When I sell it, I make it all purty like some of you :dex:
