By the way, is it just me or have other people noticed when the suggested videos come up there seem to be a lot of women cutting firewood with their arse showing?
No, I don't think so; I rarely go to YouTube and if so, then the suggested video should have been on the 3800.
Nice little review, I do that too even the cuts out. The Mingo marker would be good on wet wood, The Cutting guide I use with the saw it doesn't matter but, Lumber crayon doesn't work for crap on wet wood
It is $33 on amazon btw. https://www.amazon.com/The-MINGO-in...8&qid=1477274079&sr=8-1&keywords=mingo+marker
I have seen a lot of different ways FHC members use to measure wood when bucking; some simple to sophisticated electronic lasers. I see nothing wrong with members sharing the different ways they do things. Do you?
I would second that; having to go back and cut a couple of inches off to make it fix in the stove is wasted time; better to cut to length the first time.
That is a neat gadget. I saw several holes where the wheel connected, is that to change the distance between marks?
Of course not K. I'm just used to the over-analyzing exhibited with no action taken. (No offense) There is so much advice given that was never taken...... As you cut more and more wood, you will find yourself needing a measuring stick less and less. Experience and that scientific background you have will prove that to you. How's the job search going? Any prospects? Don't give up, everyone can use a steady reliable income, no? Just apply yourself with your determination and intelligence, it should be no problem!
It's a blizzard 5 degrees outside wind blowing 30 miles an hour, I go outside and get wood, I sure don't want to bring in wood that don't fit in the stove
I agree, you get better at juding length with more experience. I have gotten pretty good at it but once in a while I will cut one too long. I bought a truckload of logs. It had 51 logs on it. If I cut all my wood 16" at the end of every log I would have a real short piece. If you saw my video you will see how I use the mingo marker to end up with zero waste aside from a knot that may need trimmed. If I can save a 1/4 cord of waste on the first load the mingo paid for itself. Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk
What sucks is, If you cut a 25 inch round too long, don't realize it and split it all, don't ask me how I know
And if you mix them in with other wood, you may not realise until you are stuffing wood into the stove. I think I have some too long; will see when it comes time to load the stove; will probably just put aside until I have a pile and then spend the time sawing each to proper length. The bits left over will still be burned.
