This thread is making me sad. I figured we would get all kinds of enthusiasm.

So, let's figure this out. What are we doing wrong? No interest in a group saw? No interest in a race saw? Too close to Christmas and everyone is saving their money? Nobody likes me or Brad? Donation/raffle projects are getting old? This thread makes me look fat? Not enough Stihl guys? No love for FHC?

Please let me know. No hard feelings.

I don't like Brad sometimes...he drinks sometimes and makes me do stupid things, Beau seems to be okay though...

I'm interested in a race saw I would like to build one myself. Unfortunately I don't know Stihl saws that well and don't have anything to contribute. I would be willing to give money or order parts. I'm not one to post much but I am following along and hope there will be pics and posts of what's being done. Just give a shout out when something is needed.

What air filter would ya want? If it's a race saw that may exclude some of my parts stash.

It will look like a beat up 440 on the outside, so I'm thinking just the stock style air filter.

I'll be posting pictures of the cases and crank on Monday before I ship them to Beau to start the build. I am making an assumption there.... I don't know if I'm putting it together or Beau is, doesn't matter either way to me. Beau probably knows 10x as much as me on putting a saw together...

I think the best option would be to go with a Max Flow kit, but that's not required. Even if we do go with a Max Flow I think it would be best to also have an OEM HD setup; i.e. the filter and filter cover. I already have a filter base for it.

Um, yeah, 10x as much.

But yes, go ahead and ship it to me. I'll be the central hub and we'll go from there!

I haven't checked any new threads in the last month or so. Just keep replying to emails of threads in subscribed to and PMs.

I'm totally down!! I'll check through what parts I have. Although I probably have more for a 460 (plastic bits and I have a 460 cylinder and piston, but it's of the HL supply brand). But I definitely have a fuel line, impulse (aftermarket), fuel filter and a clutch cover right off hand. May have a muffler and air filter as well.

    Great idea Beau!!

Whomever wants it next, just pays shipping. Then passes it along? Then say one year from now we raffle it? Or just go until it's passed through the hands that want to run it? Or just keep passing it!! :)

I've always been a fan of Meteor pistons, but I only build stock saws. I asked, and it turns out Meteor pistons are highly discouraged for race saws over OEM. The good news is that with the price drops, the last time I checked, OEM slugs were only about $52 or so for an 046/460.

Probably a bit heavier than OEM... Which would show up in a race but wouldn't typically matter in a stock work saw.
Im with ya on the price drop. I'd go in on OEM.
