That's very kind of you John. However, I think it's probably time to let the cat out of the bag. Brad and I planned to make this is legitimate race saw. I have a friend/acquaintance who builds some of the fastest racing saws in the state of Washington. Once this joker was complete & running it was going to get a trip out west to become a "muffled race saw" in that it will have full race porting, but will still utilize a traditional style muffler instead of the stinger style.

Now that we've cleared the air on our ulterior motives...

Does the group like the idea of a full blown race saw? If so, we could possibly accept donations to help fund the modifications for anyone wanting to help, but without parts to offer. We could even go the distance and make it a ported & piped saw, but the cost of that is quite a bit more as I'm sure everyone knows.

    Thoughts anyone???

If its a full blown race saw with a pipe, wont that be a pain to ship? If its a race saw would it only run for a cut or two or be able to make multiple cuts? What fuel would it run? Not a lot of people have Nitro laying around although I can hook you up. Sorry for the all the questions.

I can. No angled plug but can do a center plug.

Figured it would be a 2 piece since you said race saw.

Perhaps full "blown" wasn't a good way to state it. What I meant was a heavily ported saw for racing. It would run on mix fuel and still utilize a (modified) OE carburetor. No alky or nitro.

That would be a lot easier. This should be really cool.

I'm a stock saw kind of guy and don't know much about race saws - they just don't interest me personally. I probably spoke incorrectly - I guess what I meant was it starts with a stock cylinder. It will likely be a two-piece head, but I'll double-check with the guy I know to make sure. Sorry for my ignorance . . . that's a sandbox I just don't play in.

Ok sounds good. I was just curious. A head isn't hard to build unless you want it to fit under stock covers.

I got some word back from my buddy. He said on the smaller saws like an 044 hybrid he encourages people to go with a one-piece head since he has not seen much benefit to going to a two-piece and the stock 046 heads are great.

I'm sold on the 044 hybrid. Let's do it!

That said, here is what we have so far:
    • 440 case set
    • 440 crank
    • 046 tank housing
    • 044 plastics (filter base has been modified to fit the 046 tank housing)
    • Possibly an 046 cylinder...

I'm assuming it doesn't matter on a hybrid if we use an 044 or 440 case set, can someone confirm? I have plenty of both, so whichever doesn't matter to me. I am pretty sure the only difference is the flippy cap oil tank, but I want to make sure there isn't a performance difference in using one over the other.

    So a 440 won't work?
