Took the 421 out to handle a clean up job left by the the electric company. 6 oak tree tops and two hickory. Even just being the tops these trees where good size. But nothing over 16"
The 421 is such a handy saw. Wish I would of had some videos the chain was Sharp and the tune was good. The chips where just a flying.

I love my 421. It's just starting to get a workout for the season, I have 10+ cords of hickory, white oak and beech to buck up. 90% of it will be with the 421 and the rest with my 6400.

What would be the easiest way to open the little Dolmar up for some more power? I have no experience with modding a saw so it would have to be relatively easy and idiot-proof?

No. Have no idea how to do that, I am afraid I will wreck something.

It is real easy. The cat is only held in by 2 spot welds. Just hit them with a drill bit or burr grinder and the cat falls out.
If you want to send it to me with the cost of postage back. Probably 10 bucks I will do it for you.

if it is tuned a little fat to begin with you wont even need to retune after cat delete, we have found that just removing the cat and nothing else is only a 200-300rpm change.

Well if I'm going to try to get better performance out of it, might as well start with something simple.

That is excellent. Thanks for the vids, makes me a lot less nervous about doing the mod.

Ya it is easy. Just make sure you rinse the muffler real good after to make sure you get any and ALL metal shavings out. The exhaust can suck debris back in and that can cause serious damage

I have not got enough use to say one way over the other. But I will say I think they have alot of potential. If the stiffness and durable are at least on part with current offerings then they will be a great alternative!
