I haven't posted anything in a while but I figured this was good reason. Deer season has been slow and hot so far. I only saw a few during archery and blackpowder season and could never get a shot. I knew I had found a good spot to hunt with the rifle and Saturday morning was my first chance to hunt it. I lugged my climbing stand back in the woods a country mile and climbed a pine on the edge of a clearcut. Once it was good daylight I hit the grunt call three times and about ten minutes later I had him on the ground. 180lbs 8pt 17 1/2" outside spread Browning Xbolt .25-06 175-200yd shot finished the European Mount this morning
Nice deer! I take it you grow em bigger upstate than down the the low country? All the deer I've seen around Beaufort have been the size of my labrador. Mount looks great too! Nice work.
thanks! IMO, they are about the same, there is more agriculture in the lowcountry, for sure, and that helps the deer a lot. I see a lot of big deer killed from both areas.
Actually, after I boil and clean the skull, I spray paint it with Kilz Primer. It's a little unconventional, but it works pretty well
I do the same except i bury them in the ground for 6 months or so instead of boiling. But yes the kilz primer looks just like it's bleached!
I will be looking for one like that or bigger come Nov. 7th. That is when our gun season opens here in Ontario. Old Fart
thanks for all the kind words. I have an even bigger buck on camera on a different tract of land I have almost solely to myself to hunt. Hopefully I will post pictures of him soon
