If I was comparing two 50 cc saws, say a 550XP and an MS261, I don't really care how much they weigh with an 18 or 20" bar, because I would never run more than 16" on either. To me, it is interesting, but irrelevant. I wouldn't choose one over the other based on weight, and the difference can't be much. I have no brand loyalty and would buy whichever I got the best deal on. By the way, if anyone is interested in swapping 50 cc screamer for a sweet running former Home Depot rental saw, I'm open. It was straight gassed and rebuilt right before I bought it. I haven't touched it other than putting a real bar and chain on it. And I'm pretty sure it was my local small engine shop that did the work, as they do a ton of warranty work for box stores in the area. They are a first class outfit.
No one is saying make a decision based on weight alone...but it should factor into the equation . Theres always someone to argue any point trying to be made I have found . This weighing thing is just for those who do find it relevant...and who have some positive input Most people who have back probs or other injuries and such..or for those getting up there in age.....are very interested in the weight and balance of things . Every pound and ounce counts a great deal toward being productive . Plus..its the middle of winter..what else are we suppose to do and talk about
I should have thrown the non-disposable clause in? Ha. Not meaning to come across as negative. In fact, I am interested. Manufacturer dry weights always make me chuckle. I already weighed up my Dolmar and Makita saws for the new thread
Its all good man !! P.S>..Im a proud Dolmar owner...are you ready for everyone to say how heavy they are for there size ? LOL I hear that all the time on AnotherSite !
Are tanks full for both ? Im not surprised that the Stihl is a little heavier..they usually are . And Im not even trying to start a fight !!! Heack..Ive got a 35cc Dolmar thats almost as heavy !! LOL !
So I figured Id do the naked weights as well....but tanks still full......they are always full anyhow 550xp 12lbs 4 oz Dolmar 350 11lbs 14oz.
Hmm, it is closer to a 1lb difference than i would have guessed it would be, not that a pound makes that much difference. Now if you all lived closer so I could run them side by side.
Whats the RPM difference between the 346xp and the 550 xp? I have been thinking about a husky in the 50 CC class.
Not uncommon for 346's to run as high as 14,500... 550 should be right in at 13,900-14,000. It has a rev limited coil.. Though it allows more rpm for a short time before bringing it back down... "Rev boost" technology... Once modified, I've seen 346's 4 stroke at 15,500 to almost 16,000. FWIW
Being "mass marketed" in the box stores certainly hasn't helped. Poulan and McCulloch used to be great brands too...
I actually have a line on a NOS 346xp. 600.00 does not sound like a great buy. I have a Jonsered 2149 and a 2054 under the bench that needs some work, maybe with a little bit of work they could be close in line with the 346. I have some thinking to do. It's getting hard on the body running the bigger saws.
