This last month my deliveries have gone to the post office for pick up, total PITA. Particularly for me, I'm like 20 miles from the post office so the sales tax savings are less than my time and and gas to go get them, most of them do not fit in our community locker mailbox. I am looking at jet.com, box.com, and walmart. Any suggestions?
Were they shipped SmartPost (FedEx) or Mail Innovations (UPS). If so, that's not likely to change by switching companies. 99% of the time this is the cheapest option for small/light parcels to residential and remote markets. Does your post office deliver to your house? If so, they should deliver the packages...Amazon is paying them to do so. Source: this is kinda my day job.
USPS does not come to my house. I have a community locked mailbox several miles from the house, with 2 tiny parcel boxes on the bottom. I guess they are called cluster mailboxes. The gal at the post office said they have had the Amazon contract for 2 years and are the main delivery. Well how is it I know my UPS and FED EX drivers so well because they are here a couple times a week for the last 2 years? But that has changed now. So poop Luke!! I have to go to the store now?
If you can avoid small box orders by pairing small stuff with large stuff you'll improve your chances of it going straight parcel and not using USPS (assuming they have the same origin).
I would check first with UPS and FED EX to see if they would not use the "choice" in your case and I think you can get them to deliver especially because of your medical condition.
The only way FedEx will come to her house is if Amazon ships it FedEx. With Parcel-Post FedEx line hauls it to the nearest USPS sort center.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it appears I am no longer privy to home delivery. UPS and FedEx came here as well as my previous remote/rural home for 25 years but...... I just looked up my monthly order shipment. 1 flat of gatorade, 3 flats of Ensure, large box of paper towels, 20 lbs of dog food among others are all going USPS. Awesome tip, thank you, but it appears Amazon has a lot of work on refining bulk vs small items and home delivery, for years now all my light items arrived UPS. All my heavy items arrived FedEx. ? Very interesting, and a bummer for me. Oh well.
I've gotten a few items from Jet, when the price was better, and I was well pleased with the results.
Do you not have options as to your preferred shipping method? When I shop Amazon I usually have 2-3 options from cheap and slow ground (USPS) or rush (UPS/FedEx). Being from Canada I look for places that ship USPS as to avoid crazy brokerage fee when the goods cross the border. Waiting a few extra days is worth it compared to doubling the original cost of the item with shipping and brokerage fees. Do you have a small local courier in town that can deliver your material from the post office to your door for a small fee? Sometimes even taxi companies offer this service.
