Replaced the cat tonight, checked the bypass gasket, pulled the door gasket off, cleaned the stove good and swept the chimney. I have a new gasket for the door already but decided to replace the glass gasket when I started cleaning the door gasket channel out. The cat had 5 seasons on it, biggest issue was/is the middle section was moving out of the retainer. I'll keep it on hand for a back up although it's unlikely I'll ever use it.
What made you decide to replace the glass gasket? I had a big chunk of slag under one of the door glass retainers. Had to remove the retainer, the slag chunk, and then could finally tighten up that retainer all the way. Snugged right down. Be sure that the new door gasket is BK OEM.
Glass was moving , I snugged it down and it was still moving.(a little) The top corners are starting to fray too. The main reason for replacing the glass gasket is I'm replacing the door gasket. The door gasket will last a few seasons and I asked myself if the glass gasket will last that long too. My guess was probably not so I'm replacing with the glass gasket to save having to do it later and ruin a door gasket in the process.
Is the new cat ceramic or steel? We did all the gaskets (5) in our stove but sadly, I found one very tiny leak. I'll probably open up the top lid and see what happened tomorrow. It is barely noticeable but I don't like it at all and will fix before it gets worse even if I have to pull that one and replace it.
