For the longest time, I am gone over and over what to do about my shortcomings in heating my home.
I can heat with the pellet stove I have, and run the furnace when it is cold. But that means using oil. I have such an aversion to that because of all the game playing, and knowing full well that they have a grip on you right where it hurts anytime they want to do a little twisting.
So, I am ending my rant. Today, I bought a new Harman p68 from Rocky's Stove Shop in Augusta. I have a nephew who works there, but I paid the same price anyone would.
Delivery is scheduled for Friday. They have the stove in stock.
harman_p68.jpg I didn't get any trim. That won't make it heat any better.
The dogs and I will like it just the way it is. My wife doesn't care as long as she is warm again.
I think that Polar Vortex, and not being able to get the heat up above 65 most of those days kind of went in my favor. I wouldn't run the furnace above 65 because it cost too much.
I took her over to see this stove today. Even being 6 feet in front of it was too much. I am hoping this stove is going to provide all the features I have on my wish list.

By the way, I clean the upper half of the stove every week and the bottom half every other. I can tell by the end of a week that my heat exchanger needs cleaning.

That will be nice. Evening news said home heating bills up an average of 50%. That and being cold is what I want to avoid the most. The person selling me the stove (Rocky's daughter) said she can run up to three bags through in her stove on very cold days. I couldn't run but about a bag and a half and still stay in the recommended limits. Would have been nice to have started out with a better stove, but at that time, theses stoves were on a waiting list for several months. I had a lot to learn. Very grateful to be assisted here.

Congrats!!!! Look forward to the pics....it will be nice to have the extra btus if ever needed. I bet you won't need to burn more than 2.5 bags a day and that will be a rare occurance. Enjoy :)

You live and learn. Probably why I'm so pushy with the stove that made my life much easier. After I went through what you have, I made a promise to do my best at guiding folks in getting a stove with a bit more than needed to supply heat even in the cold snaps.

I couldn't go Harman because I couldn't duct it easily and the convection blower is too small. But it should be light years ahead of your NPS 40.

Anyone have any idea what would be realistic to ask for my Napoleon nps40 (2008) stove should I post it on CL?

Save$!!!!! This is awesome news! Been waiting to see and read this thread for a couple years!

Congrats my friend. Many Harman owners here to help you with your journey :)

Is it going in the same room your Napoleon was in?

Yes, it uses the same vent size. Was a selling point for me. I paid $900 last time ( overpriced) for my vent. Went up on the quality of the stove without the additional cost of the new exhaust. Lower cost stove with similar BTU's uses a 4 inch exhaust. I think I'm better off this way. Now I'll have to find something else to obsess about!
I am and continue to be very thankful for the sound support I get here.
Jay is very right to encourage new folks to buy bigger than they think the will need. Better for a big stove to cruise along than to have a small one chugging full tilt trying to keep up.
Thanks for the encouragement. I think it took a bit of freezing to thaw my wife out enough to go along with this. ;)
