Scored a pickup bed full of nicely kiln dried 2x4 cutoffs from a local place that puts out their pallets and wood junk for free. This will beat the hell out of cutting up pallets to use for the stage of fire building in my boiler that comes between the kindling and "pack it till it cries" stages of heat generation. =)

Teenage daughter was actually happy to help on this one too, since it was like a big pallet full of Jenga goodness.

How long do you envision that lasting? Probably get...oh....at least a dozen start ups?

Nice score. I got some last year myself and have used it for kindling. I still have a pretty good stack of it left. Works great.

Looking at the image again, probably a couple dozen starts? Is it an OWB?

That is super nice Papi. It reminds me of when we put the addition on and had lots of cut-offs. We burned all of them in the fall when we wanted quick and short fires. Wish we could get them every year! Enjoy.

It is an owb - Woodmaster 4400. The pile wound up probably 4'tall, so I figure to get quite a few starts only using a few pieces at a time. Fired up twice so far this season, just using this on top of newspaper and twigs/splitter scraps to get the big splits I use burning well.

I usually break down 8 or 10 pallets to use for this, so this saves me a bunch of sawdust in the garage and nails to remove from the firebox, as well as a messy pile of pallet wood hanging around. The more neat the yard, the happier the wife. =)

I'm thinking that it would be better for the OWB to get up to temp and stay there instead of repeated cold starts.

Anyhoo, Nice score on the kilned kindling!!!!

That's what we'll do once it's cold enough - mid November through usually early March it will run 24/7, but in the shoulders we usually just run an evening fire when necessary to take the chill off and heat the water for next morning when we're getting ready for work and school.

At some point we will look at a gasifier with storage or a large indoor wood stove capable of heating the whole house. I'm leaning toward a wood stove, she would prefer to keep everything outside. Going to have this baby before I attempt to negotiate any further. ;)
