2 hours into a reload and NOTHING

Just wanted to go to bed. Effing 30 isn't doing a damm thing. No sizzle from the wood. Previous load went up fine. Wood from the same stack is in the Defiant with it sitting at 550.

The 30? Not a god dammed thing. I just want to get to sleep. I want to throw the damm thing through the frickin' window right now.

Odds are, the weather is fricking with me and I just happened to catch the 30 at just the right time. Either way, I'm a grumpy bastard right now.

 

Well, after nearly two and a half hours, I found the secret recipe to getting the fire going:

Step 1: Swear loudly at the stove. Wait for it to provide an answer back to you in clear, complete sentences. Once that fails, move to step two.

Step 2: Swear again at the stove while angrily moving charred splits about and slam the door.

Step 3: Take two ibuprofen after smashing your hand between two splits.

Step 4: Swear more, open door back up, move splits about, shove more wood into the stove.

Step 5: Roaring fire.

Seriously, the damm thing shot up to 650 within 10 minutes of the five step "It's Late And I Am Losing My Chit" stove loading procedure. I recommend it.

 

Are you saying sometimes it's not always the wood,
that sometimes it might be the operator ?

Like with a new load, smoke starts coming out the door, & then I notice the operator forgot to open the bypass. LOL

 

I get up at 4:30am to got to work. Ive got 30 min to reload, shave, teeth, etc. Occasionally I come out of the bathroom at tge 15 min mark and find no flame. $hit. I open the ash pan door to get a charge of underfire air and usually get flames within 2 min, I let the flame build for a couple of min and close the door, leave the draft wide open and finish getting ready.

Danger, do not try this at home. Do not sue me or the manufacture if you do. Can cause smoke explosions and burnt out grates. DANGER.

 

I'm an impatient man. If I don't get flames within 10-15 minutes I use one of my homemade firestarters. I don't need kindling with them. Set between a couple splits they have the fire going 98% of the time within minutes.

 

Been here before and its not fun.... I have actually shut the air down completely before, closed the bypass and went to bed only to wake up to a bed of coals and the griddle hitting a high of 500 (paper clip) You didnt know that stoves come with an optional timer to start later in the night while you sleep?

 

Done that one reckless.
I just don't like what might be building in the flue when I do.
I've mistimed the night load about 3 times this past week, and ended up not getting to bed until anywhere between 12:30-2:00.
Doesn't matter tons to me, since I'm retired, but still.....
The dogs don't let me sleep past 8, so it sometimes makes for a grumpy papaD.
Glad I don't have to work and do this all the time.

Sometimes? Like 95% of the time it's the operator?

 

Same thing last night and this morning for me. It's the low front moving through.
Unless your wood wasn't seasoned three years.lol

 

Thats sucks! I have had that happen a few times where the same wood that you put in on the last load literally takes 3 times longer to get going than it should have....... I have been known to help it out with a couple of pieces of fatwood. When you put them in they flame up and as soon as you have active flames it will take right off. Liek I said I don't do it all the time but the once or twice a year that I have done it it saved me alot of frustrations as the stove took off and I was able to go about my way again.

 

Do it once a year at least, at the beginning of the year I swore I wouldn't do it this year for once, did it about 2 weeks ago, I guess I let my guard down

 

Yep, happened to me a few weeks ago. We were getting ready to leave for a work party and I loaded the stove up 30 min before we had to leave. 1 hr later I finally just shut it down and hoped for the best while we were gone. Fiancée was pizzed but she was better when we came home to a warm home. Seems like it always happens that way.

 

I used to have tons of night like that with my old Dutchwest stove....... Whew I remember having to try to light the cat off 3 and 4 times occasionally by the time it was all said and done i was so wound up I wasn't tired anymore.

 

Usually the 30 is trouble free. Throw in wood and you have a near instant inferno. Not so much last night.

 

Yeah I haven't had that issue in awhile now
