Been ordering my gloves from a wholesaler for a long time, my go to top grain leather ones and rubber palmed knit ones for winter. but made mistake last week and instead of ordering six pairs each ordered six cases each. A dozen per case!
Better tomorrow many than not enough. They will also make for some nice gifts. Think "Stocking Stuffers"
At first glance of the thread title I thought this should be good, someone put a lifetime warranty on leather gloves.
So now you've got a lifetime of bar oil and now gloves... Are you trying to tell us something?? .... Well, you ought to be set now for a while... Nice looking gloves...
I was hoping for gloves that actually last a "lifetime". Mine. Kinda' like expecting the weatherman to be right.
But then, it might last 2 or 3 lifetimes. Future archaeologists would study them for another couple lifetimes, and come to conclusions about their use and who used them that would later prove to be wrong.
Me too. I actually went and got a pair of Ansell non leather gloves this year as they were on sale at Menard's. I like leather gloves, but they seem to not be the best for firewood making duties.
That would describe me! Wonder if in 50 years we will have enough people willing to do work that actually requires gloves
I've been ordering by the case (dozen or more) for quite some time or at least since I can no longer find the good ones that used to be made. I don't use gloves in summer and do our cutting and splitting and such usually when it is cold outdoors. This requires some warm gloves and they are difficult to find. That is, I've found insulated gloves to be almost useless but do like pile lined. I also usually take 2 pair with me when it gets cold or is a bit wet; one pair is wrapped up with a hot soapstone block inside each glove so that when my hands get too cold or damp, I change into a nice warm pair. It works great.
Atlas 460 insulated vinyl are tough as nails. Bought them as snowblower gloves, but they are good on wood too. For leather gloves I buy the three pack of Wells Lamont at Costco.
I used to use Wells Lamont pile lined all the time and they were the best I've ever found but sadly, nobody seems to carry them around here any more. Ace Hardware and Do-It both claim they carry them but the locals won't order them in. They want to sell the house brands and they are not worth the dollars. I've been ordering online from Galeton but the last bunch were not made as well. I think they've also gone to China for making the gloves by the looks of them so not sure if I'll order from them again or not.
Thanks Ray but it appears they've quit making the gloves we used to wear. Deerskin are nice but not for handling wood. They will wear out super fast. Pigskin does not work really good either. One definitely needs a good cowhide in order to last.
Dennis, check the Amazon link. Near the bottom of the page they have selections of WL gloves. A couple of pages of them and at least one is cowhide. The ones I have are cowhide as far as I know. And they have the suede leather patch on the palm and thumb.
Might work for early fall Ray. Need pile lined for sure for winter useage. That's when we do most of our woods work and it gets a bit cold out there!
