It's time to light it up here in Michigan! The wife has a broken temperature gauge so when she says light it I do! And she said light it up! We are burning 4 year old dry pine until it gets much colder then the good stuff.
Our first fire in the NZ3000 will commenced later this evening. I'm headed out the door to do a removal right now, or else I'd get the Mrs. permission to light one off this morning!! It's not cold, but kinda chilly in here this morning... Looking good Pete!!
Scott I want pics of the NZ when you light up! That is beautiful! Its 37F out this morning but 63 inside I dont really need it but she does and its very relaxing!
Looking good Pete. We would just about have a revolt at 63 degrees here. Watch out for that dangerous pine.
Ill watch it burn! She came outside yesterday afternoon and gave me the look... Then with a hoodie and warm pants on and said I am cold can I light the stove? I dont even think about it until she says something because its hard to gauge when she will want it and I am fine without it. Her thyroid issues make it a crap shoot trying to figure out when to light it. I did light a few loads this summer for her just because she was cold even though it was 90 outside.....
Do tell, how does this work? Maybe I'm using the wrong kind of pellets cause I find pellets and eco bricks hard to light unless there is existing coals or active fire... Does they make Super Cedar pellets?
Easy I build a small wood pile and leave a gap in the center then dump the pellets in the gap. Then set a lighter on them and let them go. they make a nice hot coal bed. It works great in my Rangeley. Load north south also helps.
You have me very curious. I want to try this. I know nothing about pellets. Can I go to menards and buy a decent brand?
Yup they carry magic spark and propellets around here they are the same company and it's what I use in the pellet stove. One bag lasted me most of last winter for the wood stove lighting. We still use kindling but the pellets means I don't need to spend time intentionally making kindling I can just use the leftovers from splitting and the pellets. Pellets being dry make a quick bed of coals and are easy to use.
We will be firing again tonight. Forecast for 42° . Maybe it will finally get some deer moving in the woods, too.
Good luck play with it a little. It took a two burns for me to figure out the pattern but now it's light n go...
