Hit 80 °F today , dropping fast 63°F now , Low tonight 45 °F , High tomorrow 58 °F Time to close the windows
Two nights of that in NW AR? That's nutty! They are calling for 49 here, way north of you! Couple nights in the mid/upper 40s here but I think we can make it through to the warmer temps without firing up...this time. The season will be here soon enough...I'm in no hurry to start yet. Heck, I still haven't brushed any of our chimneys. 62 here now...windows have been closed for several hours.
It was down to freezing this morning so we got the stove going for the first time this fall. By 10 it was up to 80 in the house and felt wonderful. We have stopped loading wood in for today. It is nice to be able to have a hot fire for just a few hours, enough to warm up the house.
Had a nice fire last night! Woke up to 38F outside and still a great 75F in the house. I love this kind of weather.
It felt strange this morning going out and it felt cold on your face. Put a jacket on too along with some gloves. Reminds one of old times!
It's kind of chilly and damp here and I thought I might build a fire but wife was baking most of the day so that heated up the house quite nicely. Forecast looks like I may build one this week - highs only in the 60s and lows in the 40s or 30s. I could deal with another week or two without a fire honestly - weather has been pretty good other than rain today.
This weather is absolutely been crazy for a few yrs now. Spose to be a nasty winter in my area. But in retrospect weather has or was always nasty up here, its all about perspective I guess. To me anything above freezing at nite this time of year is nice here. It's January February that get tough going for my older bones. Hope all my wood customers see the light and order early so I'm not out delivering in minus 20. I had 200 acres of oak given to me for clear cutting I was hoping for a long fall and easy winter to start on it. I want the logs! I cut mostly birch and ash for bulk wood sales and poplar for bundles. I'm4th generation on the old homestead here with just under 500 acres mixed forest living the dream!
Dennis I have family in Hazen too. Aunt and cousins. Wife's family from Zap And Beulah. Good German country! Onry women!
Started the day here with cool, damp pounding rain. Started a small, first for this season, "chunky/junk" fire to take the dampness out. Sure felt good...............Love the way it just sucks up the dampness in the house.
That's what the fire pit is for (addicted to that) but I have had a few fires in the house the last couple of days.
Low 30's at night lately. Too bad, our late fall has finally set in, but glad it lasted longer than normal.
Furnace will run a bit if it needs too. I still want to do some maintenance on the stove before I fire it up. Gonna put a new cat in(5 seasons on it) and check the gaskets. I could easily run the stove as is, honestly I'm really not interested yet. This is the latest I've gone since I started burning wood in 2009. I figure I'll break down soon enough and light up when the wife tells me to.
Feel exactly the same. Just came in from the garage with my stove door, replaced gaskets. Sat down on the couch and wife was looking at me like, "ok, you going to get the splits now?" Suppose to be 35 tonight. Maybe I'll fire one off in the morning, probably not though , haven't even brought wood up to the house yet.
