Went to division of forestry Forester not their this week You'd think a state the size of Alaska would have enough land Receptionist said it might be because there's limited state land with road access? Who knows, the area 40 mi away may work out ok.
Sorry to hear that bogydave. It must feel like youve had the rug pulled out from underneath you. Hopefully you find a new spot that will help you provide heat for your home.

I found out on Sun that I was about 800' across a boundary where I had been gathering wood this past summer. 4 truckloads. No harm, no foul. It was on an inactive logging site and as usual, I was cutting the leftovers-leave behinds. There is more in there still, but a boundary is a boundary! I can relate to your pain, bogy!
Have thought about a " log load" of 8 - 10 cord Near $1100 last time I checked (note to self to check the availability, this time of the year lots of wood selling but I'm working 3 years ahead) So I can buy that off season & maybe get a better price. I'd still get the fun of running the saw & splitter. + it saves truck gas Something about selecting & felling the tree , to me, is one of the best parts. & being in the woods
100 plus a cord for paper birch that rough... maybe a trailer with winch to get it home and cut and split there.. don't worry we will think of something
I kind of know how you feel. I say "kind of" because here it is all private land so the state has no control over when you can cut and what, however it is of little use if the paper mills do not take the wood. Right now with only 6 left in the state they are swamped with wood...literally. Their log yards are filled. Its honestly day by day on whether they are taking wood or not. They might tell you on Wednesday that they won't be taking wood for a few weeks... I have been switching constantly from pulp to sawlogs, as anytime the paper mills are taking wood, I cut that, knowing I can always cut sawlogs when they aren't. But as someone said their is always a silver lining. I am logging my own land and using equipment that is paid for so my overhead is incredibly low. But I do feel for those that have feller-bunchers, skidders, loaders and trucks and trying to get enough wood out to pay for it all.

Yea. Alaska birch, Paper birch , white birch & some is called red birch ??? Tested out to be near the same BTU as yellow birch (23.6 mil BTU/cord)
On my way as soon as I put a large fuel tank in the truck. Towing a 1-1/2 cord loaded trailer may take some extra fuel getting back home. + , Up hill all the way Figured round trip, 8 days
I can certainly relate to this. I just wondered if Nate may know of any private land you could cut on. Of course I don't now how you left things with him previously and sometimes one does not like to ask for favors.
