We usually put 2 1/2-3 cord of wood in the barn for winter burning. Normally I'll move the wood in during mid October but getting at it early this year (too warm for decent hunting anyway). So I actually got started with a little bit yesterday and more today. The first pictures shows where the wood is coming from. It was split and stacked in April, 2012. It is mostly white ash and oak (red, pin and a little white) with a few cherry and soft maple mixed in for kicks. Notice too the lack of color in the trees. It was like summer today at 78 degrees and a south wind. Here are a few pictures I took as I stacked the wood in the barn. Still lots to move in but probably about half done now.

Backwoods Savage , y'all need to send that warm weather back here where it belongs. The weather guessers say we made it up to 64 degrees today, but where I live, I have my doubts it made it to 60 since it was overcast the majority of the day, and then when the sun finally did shine, it only illuminated part of the end of my driveway. I'm in the shadow of the mountain until spring! Nice pile of work you did there. A little more and you'll be all set. So what will you do with the 2 or 3 weeks that your ahead! Haul more wood or reserve it for hunting? I've seen quite a few deer lately here, some came within 10 feet of my front porch steps. I just let em go on mowing the lawn. I finished the job a few hours later! Mowing the lawn that is.

Cool temps coming this weekend so I removed the screen from the top of the chimney, the one to keep birds and bats from the stove, brought wood boxes into the garage, brought wood boxes into the house next to the stove, filled up the boxes with wood, both shoulder wood and kindling. I think I am almost ready for a Wisconsin winter.
Gettin' there Sav, I know I can't get in any mood to hunt when it is in the mid 70's. I was restacking/organizing my big pile on the fence this evening so I can start stacking fresh stuff. Got the patio furniture stowed on Monday and soon will get a cord moved up there.
Being out in the country where it is cooler than in town, I would say we could get down close to freezing this Saturday and Sunday with highs in the upper 50's. Just cool enough to have a quick hot short lived fire in the morning.
It is a Yamaha Grizzly 700. Notice I put the windshield on just last week and yesterday it got to 78 degrees. Sheeze... But, colder weather on the way so it will be welcome.
Well, the barn is about 4 1/2' from the house. The problem is where we put the wood on the porch, we have to go around the house but it isn't very far and gives a bit more exercise during winter months as we sometimes have to put wood on the porch weekly (in January for sure). EDIT: The stove is just about 3 steps from the wood rack on the porch.
Thank you. The plan is to get some of this sort of work done before the real good hunting starts toward the end of the month then hunt until Thanksgiving. Soon after that we'll start the wood cutting again but first I still have some logs to haul out of the woods that the guys cut during our get together last April. Yes, I'm a bit behind. Yup that's smart right there get wood for stove in your slippahs with morning coffee! easy Eric VW ... as snow here in normal winter can get 3 feet deep.. not having to fight to get it in blizzard is nice!
