When I bought this house, all the appliances were black, except for the over-the-stove microwave, which was white. Although I had never had black appliances before, and wasn't sure what to think of them, they grew on me. I even bought a portable dishwasher in black to match (oh yes, and the pellet stoves match too :D). The microwave has its foibles; the beeper can only be heard by owls and bats - from about 2" away (and no adjustment can be made) and sometimes it wouldn't heat at full power so heating up coffee for 2 minutes would result in a luke-warm drink that had to be re-microwaved (and I don't like scorching
hot coffee , so you know it was sad). I half-heartedly looked thru CL for a replacement, but nothing serious.

Then the turntable stopped working. Still heats, just have to manually turn the dish (I fel like I'm back in the 1980's!) So, the search became more focused. I still didn't HAVE to have a new microwave, so wasn't going to a store, but kept a better eye on CL for decent deals. Then toward the end of July, I found a guy selling a never-used, floor model close out that he had bought thinking he could ebay it - then he found out the shipping costs . I shelled out &70 so fast it probably made his head spin. However, it has sat in the basement all this time. I was going to have my folks help me uninstall the old one and install the new one while they were here - but I wore them out with the cabinetry help. This weekend I screwed up my courage and inventiveness and managed to do the whole job by myself.

Be happy I spared you the pic of all the grime and grodiness that was there :jaw:

If that is a Kenmore, then at least it is in the same family as my old one was.

Happy to report that the GE's (new black microwave) beeper is good, as is the turntable

Hello all, I'm back:salute:. What a long hot and dry summer here on the farm. Fruit trees survived with so much effort carting 55 gallon watering drums to weep/soak them in. Many of the planted crops didn't fair as well, especially the cover crops planted in the spring. The drought gave the weeds a leg up on them. Still picking the apples. The strawberries are still going like crazy in the greenhouse!!

Going to set my mind to getting some LG's this week.

I'll try to read up on your posts this next few weeks and see how you are all fairing.

first burn last night when we got home from weekend in the RV at the Zagray Farm Fall Show. The rainy weather really put a damper on the show, but still talked to a lot of people showing off the new engine building and the Fairbanks engine. The guy who bought our 3 cylinder Fairbanks was up from VA to see our set-up and pick up a few parts. He was a wealth of knowledge on these engines and pointed us in the right direction on prepping the motor for a start in 2017. we have an hour video where he speaks and points out how the fuel, air and oil systems work and what needs our attention. got a plan on installing the exhaust system on Sunday, and how to swap the end flanges so the exhaust will go where we need it.

The VA guy wants to come up at help us do the first start! cool!

Actually, it's a Whirlpool, but I think they make them for a lot of other companies too.

i scoop my pellets into a small bucket that holds 10 lbs of pellets. makes it easier to transfer to the narrow opening in the 52I. with 2 buckets, 40 lbs goes in in the morning with 2 easy trips....and no mess in the living room. i can easily handle the 40 lb bags...but dont need to

Cleaned the E2 yesterday except the chimney as the older sons back hurt and he didn't want to climb up there. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it is to remove the room fan. No tools, just a quick release. Took out and used compressed air and vacuumed out the rest. I think it will become part of my one ton cleaning. Didn't fire it up cause house was already warm from wifey cooking up chicken and pasta. Should be fine though.

Natural gas went right by our road, but it was the pressurized delivery pipe, not the one they use for distribution. The pressurized one goes to a substation then is sent out to the lines that go to homes, businesses etc. I put a gas furnace in hoping to convert it to natural gas, but I don't think I'll live long enough to see it happen. Around here, they are only putting it on streets where the homes are close together. Odd, that went in two years ago. Last year they doubled the cost.

something like this from Sams club, 50 bucks Easily move a bag of pellets. I can't carry them either, but have found lots of ways of moving them. I even pull them on a plastic snow sled from the garage to the porch.

Being myself, for the last 3 months Mercy has screwed up my bill. Today I told them to get it corrected or go without payment. We will see, they have had the correct insurance group to bill but they continued to use the old one from 2014. Opps.
