I've had quite the busy summer as I'm sure everyone else has also. Doing some major home renovations, helping my dad work on his 1972 Chris Craft Lancer, trying to enjoy every day of this beautiful summer and oh yeah, just had a baby boy on Thursday! Browsed from time to time but haven't posted, didn't forget about you guys though. Now that I have a few weeks off work and it's getting colder out I'll be around a little more. Didn't work any firewood this summer but I'm 4 years ahead and running out of room so that's ok. Might get out and clear some beech trees from my wife's cousins property soon so I'm sure I'll come home with some of that. Got out into he woods with the dogs the day before my son was born, 800 acres all to myself. What a great way to relax and reflect, nature has great healing powers. I haven't been absent long enough to forget how much you guys like pictures so here's a few from our hike.

Crazy rock formation, glad it wasn't my time to go because I wouldn't want to be crushed by that.

Eagles nest high into an oak tree, eagle flew away as it heard the dogs coming. They're really making a comeback which is great to see.

Huge sycamores and a big old oak. All old growth forest.

Beautiful place to take a hike. Feel very lucky to live in a place with this in my backyard and the Great Lakes region five minutes away also.

And these two maniacs doing what they do best, chasing anything that moves. It was chipmunks here.

Looking forward to the burning season and frequenting the forums a little more now that we'll be spending more time indoors in the next few months.

Welcome back and congratulations on the new son!

That is a beautiful area and you are right, having that much acreage has to be sweet. We don't own that much but are free to roam on that much or more around here. Only a few miles away we also have access to several square miles of state owned wooded land. Love it!

My first thought was that it was a flying saucer that hit the wall, stuck, and got fossilized.

I don't own that land either. It's county land but basically in my backyard. I was the only one there that day, that I could tell. It's only busy on nice weekends in the summer, I use it all the time.

It's county land in western New York. There's a upper trail that runs along the top of the creek with steep shale cliffs all around. I don't usually hike that one because I wouldn't put it past my dogs to chase an animal off the cliff and go over themselves. There's also a lower trail that goes into the forest and pops out along the creek in places, that's where I was for these pictures. Then there's tons of land if you want to just blaze your own path too which I usually do in late winter when the brush is all dead.

Somebody told me once how those were formed but I can't remember. I'm sure someone here would know. But the Dino egg or flying saucer sounds good too.

    County land, huh?
Is it too far/difficult for scrounging?
Sometimes the county will allow gathering within specific parameters? Like alongside roadway dead and down only....

There's a small parking lot but after that it's about a 1/2 mile trek to get in to the woods, so it's too far. Doesn't matter though because there's nothing allowed to be taken out.
