Yup it's 4" above the pie pan in the center! Just threw it in the oven. No recipe either just winged it with cinnamon, butter, flour and nutmeg.

A wonderful thread about apple pie that just looks awesome and someone is talking about BEER again. We shouldn't derail another thread of Pete's. That pie could give Campinspecter ideas about what he wants me to cook next.

Baking tip for you Pete. Scratch an "F H C" in the top of the pie instead of an "X" and you will get more likes. Works for me.

LOL, all I'm thinking is how much would I have to charge for a pie like that. When I do them I do about 40 at a time but filled no where near that, with a lot more juice. That does look good. I wish I could put out something like that. I'm thinking $25-30 for something like that around here before it would be worth for me to do like this. Is that a 9 or 10"? And are those Michigan apples? I remember the apples from up north on our land near Lewiston, the loggers had planted trees way back when, those were some of the best tasting apples ever.

Johnsons Resturant is at the end of my street and they have a separate, small Marketplace store. There they sell high quality meats that have become too expensive for me to buy over the past few years (I now get my beef by buying quarter sides direct from a farm on my street). BUT they also have homemade deserts that are very reasonable including some of the best homemade pies I have had. At $12.50 per pie they are more than the grocery store pies, but so much better. Definitely worth the $$ as it would cost similar money to make these.

All of their desserts are awesome ! Bread pudding at times, scones, cookies, brownies, whoopie pies. You never know what different flavors they will come up with on anything they make. Holiday time they have some Cream Cheese filled Pumpkin Rolls that are soooo gooood. Not a good place for my diet, but cant resist :)
