At least that pile gets smaller each time you have a go at it. Ive got some in the yard that needs splitting as well. Staring at it isnt getting the job done.
After driving 100 miles, the wood has to meet stringent requirements of length, diameter, growth ring spacing, cleanliness, straightness, etc. etc. !!
Nice pile! Makes the journey worth it when you have that to show for it. How many trips do you usually make?
I just look for at least 4 good trees all in one area so I do not have to move my truck or saws around that way. There is plenty of beetle kill so it is not difficult.
There is one elderly couple out here in my area that I will give a lot of wood to this year but I do not think they will be here next winter. They were talking of moving into town because of their health.

I think I'll roll out the hydraulic this weekend and split some stuff I've been saving for such a time.
I will buck them up on a stump I have here and then use a hydraulic splitter. I am not good enough with an axe or have the endurance to split all that by hand.
For 35 years I split by hand. Now I have a new best friend, my Cub Cadet 25 ton toy. I can still split by hand and don't mind doing so. It is just the volume of wood is so great I can't keep up, ya know with the 3 year plan and all. Looking at 2019, 2020. For someone who has heated with wood for close to 40 years, I've learned so much being here. I've never said I knew it all, But Backwoods Savage filled in my missing knowledge, and many others!!
