    Trail work.....

Snowmobile season is fast approaching, you can always tow firewood out in the winter with your sled!!

I'm not sure, the only thing I can tell you is we have room for four face cord or 1.22 cord in our better wood inventory.

I think the most we ever had stacked (includes shoulder season wood) was 28 cord, not face. I think a good estimate this year would be 22-23 cord, we're still happy with that.

Once the ferns die off, I'll be able to get down in the ravines to see if anything is down. I would be happy with cutting about two more cord before winter hits.

Starting in October I'll be after a good size Maple that will provide plenty of wood and then this coming spring I'll be on some hills getting two or three downed Cherry. I'm getting tired of cutting dead or dying pine.

I did get one Scotch Pine down and some stump removal done today, I might head back out to split it. I'll have some pictures later since I left the camera in the Rhino.

Wish I could send it to those who really need it. Checked the rain guage around 10:30 this morning and dumped out 4.4 inches. It started raining again with possible severe storms tonight. I am high and dry for now. The local weather office said the area has gotten over 14 inches of rain since the first of August. I hear the Farmers Almanac is calling for a hard winter. Hope we don't get snow like we have been getting rain.

I wish you could send some this way. My son drained the above ground pool. He sat a hose in what looked like a chipmunk hole in the front lawn. The hole never over flowed, and no water ever surfaced during the pool draining. There is an oak a few feet away. Bet it isn't thirsty anymore.

After doing about 4 smaller stumps after the scotch pine, I called it a day. I split the rounds tomorrow and put it in the winter burn pile.

We also put in two loads (one pic) of Cherry and some kindling so we're ready when it turns colder on Sunday.

You sure do a neat job processing your wood. I like those close to the ground tree stumps. Good job!

Thanks savemoney , it seems that since we bought the used sleds the stumps near the trails have got lower. I use to leave them up around 4 inches but the wife thought otherwise.

Once we get the backhoe on the tractor, the stump removal will be easier.

When I started the trail clearing around the house, it was just for walking and then we bought the rhino so I made them wider and this year the tractor came so.......we need them even wider.

I hope we never have a fire in the woods but if we do the trails around the house would be a big help to our fire department.

Nice job there Woody! I've got to cut stumps lower to the ground still.

I've got to find my chitty chains for the stumps. I can't wait for the cooler weather, this muggy weather sucks.

Was watching that thing move this way. I haven't checked the rain gauge yet but most of that storm petered out before it got to us.

Backwoods Savage It has been quiet the past few hours but there is another batch of storms moving east along the Minnesota-Iowa border. I am just north of La Crosse so we may get more rain. So far today I have gotten 4.8 inches.

We've been getting rained on, but not as much as you.

Most of us cut our "lumber" a bit too short to make an ark. Lol

Looks like we're (U.P.) on the northern edge of that rain...
