Points don't mean much when you have a civil service job. I got lucky. Even though I've worked for the State for the last 14+ years, I have 30 years of a high enough contributions to SSA that the Windfall Limitation Provision doesn't apply. Thank God. If my SA was cut in half, I'd be working until I died.

Just thinking out loud here. I live a few miles from a lake that is being drawn down a foot more than usual so people can do dock/shore repairs.

Is it me or should they not be drawing down that much during a freaking drought ???? Its the lowest I have ever seen the lake and the sign says that it needs to be back to normal draw down level before freeze to protect the shoreline and the nesting areas of egg hatching wild life. How the hel l will it come back if the dam drought continues?

Maybe its me, but I am getting really tired of the stupid decisions people are making lately and I am finding I have less tolerance for idiots :hair:

I was not told why, just something about double dipping. In addition to the Civil Service, I retired from the Military and I have a full pension with the benefits. Just not liking them stealing my SS. I am doing OK, just have no use for thieves.

Its actually called WEP, the Windfall Elimination Provision. (sorry, just being nitpicky:p) I am affected by this as well. I will have 37 years of public service but will only receive about 40% of my SS benefit even though I have paid into the SS system for more than ten years. There is a move to repeal WEP but nothing has happened that I have heard.

I'm just shocked that they have to draw down at all judging by the looks of thinks around here.

Part of the draw down may be because downstream really, really needs a release anyway, so they are timing both things at once. Course that is probably over-optimistic on my part and it may really be stupidity.

I was looking at the lake level a week ago before the draw down started and it was down maybe a foot more than normal for this time of year, actually not too bad. I thought at the time that maybe they re thought the "extra" draw down for private dock maintenance. I was incorrect.

The small public dock at the launch is a floating one that is removed every winter. So this extra draw down looks to be solely for the private docks and maybe any of their private shore maintenance. Seems to me that given the drought, this could have been tabled until next year.

If it wasnt for the mention of endangering wildlife nesting areas if not brought back to normal before freeze, I would not feel badly one bit if this bites the private owners in the azz for their stupidity.

Very jealous. Would love to get over there someday. We will be taking a few trips to Maine over the net year, so hopefully one of them will work out where we can arrange with Scot to stop by and get a tour of the mill.
