Don't have it, but I could have it in the morning. We don't stock a lot of filters, just the stuff that is popular for us. Most customers call ahead and schedule an appointment for an oil change.

So they use basically a old school outdated Dino spec oil?
Did you mis-quote copy? The post further down states that just about any oil will meet the old spec?
We never use anything other than the cheap stuff at Walmart for VW.
The Mrs has 235k on the passat. What kind of trouble am I in for?

They already have EGR delete for this truck, as well as different tunes. So whether it's "different" from the new Cummins, Powerstrokes, or Duramaxs? It's not... Every semi produced today uses DEF. . You think they still won't go 1,000,000 miles?

Around here, you can't EGR delete, or any emissions related mod on any newer diesel. I think it's 07 + that even diesels need to pass emissions, unless it's a heavy truck. Any 1500 isn't heavy enough to not have to take emissions tests.

Those are a severe pita here.

The engines themselves will be fine. Until they have to downsize them to get them to run hotter. The emission systems work better under load. So long haul rigs should have less trouble. Delivery trucks ext. are having issues. Excessive idling is bad for these systems. Though not as bad with def compared to regen. So drive it like you stole it and you'll probably get along fine.

No but those big trucks have their share off issues. Most all loggers I have that bought those tier 4 trucks have got rid of them or just bear the trouble associated with them. Many just keep rebuilding the older ones.

One logger I have...not that big of one. Buys a chasis/cab from freightliner and buys a motor from a yard and then puts the motor in the new truck and rebuilds it all at the same time. So he had a new truck with an older cummins diesel in it. Still the computer controlled ones but without all the tier 4 crap

What rebuilding old engines or buying chasis and installing an older motor? This was just last summer I beleive he bought those 2 trucks. Brand new. Plastic on the seats and a box on the back with the needed parts to be installed once the motor was in place.

Buying glider kits. A local dairy with a large truck fleet was buying gliders somewhat regularly but I had heard that EPA had closed that little loophole once they figured out that people were sidestepping the new emissions engines in the process. I dunno...just what somebody told me...I guess I should look it up...

Diesel has been close in price here and I had noticed awhile back was a bit cheaper. Then gas droped but I think gas has crept back up due to the pipeline ordeal.

Anyway I just took this pic. 20160920_121114.jpg

Most reputable performance shops can do a tune, you can buy a programmer or find someone with EFI live or hptuners.
Delete every emissions peice on the truck, pick up some hp and mpgs without any other changes.

A handheld can work, switching between stock-tow haul-economy is useful.

There are emulators too which is the cheapest but I've had them fail.

I think you can replace with a pre dpf exhaust(boneyard e-bay) piece +tune or emulator but dont quote me.

Bring your tank down here then. :) we can hang out and I'll give you a place to stay. Haha , remember that's onroad. Offroad is 20 cents or so cheaper.

This reminded me of something I have noticed in the past, you can often tell what diesel engine is running by the smell. Old JD tractors were distinct from a Ford, and a 7.3 Powerstroke smells completely different from a 5.9 Cummins...etc.
