I'm at about $.09 KWH. We're updating appliances...my fridge is old as dirt and I'm guessing it is a pig. Hoping to save some money there.

Nothing beats cooking on the stove. I miss that a lot. Hard to even warm our hands on top of my pellet stove.

It's going to be really weird going back to cooking in the kitchen.

We are $.11.22 kwh as per my last bill. I just got a new fridge in the fall, old one s#!t to bed but it was 23 years old. My wife and I use the oven about a half dozen times a year. We use the deep big skillet on the counter top for most things and I doo all soups and stews on Grandma. If I could afford to pack up and go, I'd be in the woods off the grid:p…. I'd be happy as , well:drunk:….. I don't give a dam about TV, cell phones, etc…. I do like my music:) though, and as long as I could get some news, I'd be fine.

The electric company has no right to open your service panel.. Most electric company people are not licensed electricians and besides they have no right to enter your home!

They brought someone in with them, an electrician, and they "did" ask permission. I said fine, I had nothing to hide….. There was one guy who in the beginning, whom I told him to leave, said we will get a court order to inspect your panel, I said in a very nice voice,:mad::mad: GO RIGHT THE F><K AHEAD…., about two weeks later, they were changing my meter again.

I did ask that! They said the meter was their property, after asking my legal service, they were correct, it does belong to them, and if they want to put a new meter on every week they have the right to. "now" I did call the electric company and said I felt harrassed and I was going to pursue legal action if this didn't end soon, After that I didn't here any more from them. This has been quite some time ago but I did find out that there was more people in the neighbor hood whom of which this happened too.

There were summer people who only come down in the spring and summer months had issues with our electric company as well.

My meter is outside and only older homes have them inside but if you upgrade your service the meter has to be outside.. This house was built over 25 years ago so outside meters are more common here..Problem solved..

That experience is downright insulting. Just because you chose to limit your usage, that does not constitute grounds for their bad behavior. You are the consumer. They are selling a service and a product. You are not obligated to accommodate them.
How about a power generating windmill on your front lawn?

Ray, My meter is on the outside. The house will be 50 years old this June. SM, yes, I was pizzed to say the least. The first bout we had was because they couldn't see how I was using so much less power than my neighbors. When I recieved my first "estimated" bill, I got right on the phone and said "what the #ELL" is this….. the burner was lit:confused:… All said and done, what finally stopped it after the threat of legal action, My wife works for a news paper!;). Again, I wasn't the only one going through this, but it took a while to find out, and this was quite a few years back. As far as a wind generator, I looked REAL HARD at it! $85,000 up front for the Kw's they say I need…. "Problem"…. Township I live in won't allow it and I'm in the bird migratory zone…. NOT HAPPINING, i would have every birder, peta, the audubon society, and who else at my front door.

Well in that case they have no right to look at the service panel.. They do NOT own the the service panel only the meter (the meter socket is NOT their equipment either).. The only thing they need to see is if you hot wired onto the line side of the meter socket.. This is very obvious!! I would refuse to allow them into my service panel it is my equipment and they have no business in there at all!
