Yeah, I've got them in my sketch book, where I keep all of my plans. Greg is going back to work at the Dephi (Harrison Radiator) plant, but we were talking about doing a whole series of these tables: a couple in Ash, and maybe one in Black Walnut too. Yeah, 2 wedges per side - I'm thinking one going left, one going right. The bridle joints are going to get dowel pins. It's just a dry fit right now - no fasteners or glue were used in the taking of these pics.
You know, one of the stretchers had a pretty good saw mark in it. Turns out a 7-3/4" long, 7" wide tenon isn't the easiest thing to make. I tried to use my homemade tenoning jig pictured earlier to cut the lower part, thinking I wanted a nice clean cut for the exposed portion of the tenon. Well of course one of the cuts started a little deeper than I wanted, and left a nice little mark from my 10" table saw blade at max height. I looked at it for a while, and then it occurred to me to just turn it into a decorative cut: just take the same 5" radius off of each corner. But,,, by the time I was done fitting those joints, I had hand planed all of it away. They're meant to be knockdown joints, so I didn't want a real tight fit anyway. I might still go with that detail, or something else, or leave it alone. I'm really not sure.
Thanks! They wanted 4' booths - I tried to convince them to go 5', but they would have had to move this huge shuffleboard table that's been a signature of that bar for years. So the tables are 4' long, varying between 30-32" wide. Going with a satin poly finish, I'm thinking 2 coats wipe on, 2 brush, and wax for the table tops, then probably 1 wipe, and 1-2 brush for everything else.
Outstanding job, Shawn! If you could make a few more and ship em down here they would sell for big money! Lotsa rich people round these parts that loooove hand crafted furniture like that and would pay a premium for work like yours! Super dooper dood!
Awsome job Shawn a lot of work there and a lot of details. A project like that is a learning experience too. Yep, Always alternate clamps top and bottom to help avoid cupping. When it's all done, you will be setting back being proud as can be
It's a lot. Theres probably at least 80 so far just for the tables. Well its making me wish I had a couple but nothing so for except a $30 natural bristle brush.
