Morning/evening fires at the cottage are more common now also. Small fires in the 13 that is. Very small!

"Just to keep the chill out" she says!
"Just to keep the fire going" she says!

    "I'm going to melt" I says!

Finally had the chance for a glorified kindling fire last night, and this morning. The weather is warming up again, so the stove will go cold again for a couple weeks I'm thinking.

The wood firing season is still on hold here. The temperatures for this week will be summer-like. Arrrgh.

Cold weather can't come soon enough!

We are at that awkward time of year where it might be 75 and sunny all day but 42 in the morning and pretty long nights so the house temp is slowly dropping into the mid 60s. We can make an effort to open doors and warm the house during the warm time or I get to start some fires which I'm really excited to do anyways.

Suppose to hit low 30s tonight. Excited to fire up the stove.

Tried out my new fire wood transportation device. Built a set of forks to move loaded IBC totes. Not sure cord wise how much is in there, but the front tires are awful light...

Fired up the first fire tonight. I think it will be a on and off thing for the next couple of weeks since the temps are bouncing around a lot. It was nice to see those flames a flickering in the ole wood stove. Some how it just makes it feel more like home.

If the forecast for the month for our area is correct, we might not have to burn until the beginning of October. We usually start burning on September 15.

I remember just about 30 years back that the furnace would kick on as early as the end of August. Up at Lake George the Late August nights could get very chilly too.

Growing up in the 70s-80s you could count on the first frost at fair time the end of August. Last year it was end of Sept.
Lake Erie hit a record temp this year. If the south and east winds continue like they have all summer. I'd bet we won't have much of a winter here.

Close to the same here but although we used to normally have our first fires in mid-September, lately it has been late September or early October.

I ask the wife if she wanted a wood stove fire and she said it wasn't cold enough, so we'll wait.
