Echo 6700 build

    Clean saw. Really similar to the 670 except Air filter, Chain brake, cover, front tensioner, and color. are the main visible ques.

    Might dig back into this one after a std port job. Be really easy to adapt a large carb/boot, not planning to at this time.

    This has me kind of baffled. No base gasket/ sealer at all.. nothing appears to be touched... based on the corrosion on the jug bolts. Wonder if it was like that since new? Still had plenty of comp to run and a new tygon fuel line.

    This one is getting a 268 piston. More than likely add some bridges on the intake side, rather small tunnel,

    Have to see what numbers look like with the 268 piston but I would like to see 77 101 123...

    268 piston fitted. Had to open it up a bit to fit the rod. Smooth out the casting scale while I was at it.

    Band cut, squish at .021 around .050 out of it..

    Just by swapping the piston numbers are 81, 110, 131.

    Transfers widened just a bit, clipped the bottom edge. Set at 123

    Ex set at 101, just a bit wider too.

    This one may end up with a little too much compression. ..

    That's really weird about the base gasket! Might account for the scoring on P&C.

    It could, as clean as the saw is. Could have been like that from the factory, scored it and sat for years. Someone tried putting a fuel line on it. I don't have any history on the saw. But it is very interesting.

    Especially since, after a double take of the pic, the case is discolored right below the scored area of the piston. I can't imagine it ran very long like that. How did the bearings seem?

    It's gonna be a nice looking saw when you are done. I dig those old orange Echos!

    Everything else seemed fine, not a lot of scoring actually. Other than the fuel line, this saw looks untouched.

    Top cover screws were loose, (required removal to do the line) and spark plug, probably to check for scoring. Cause the muffler bolts looked pretty questionable.

    It is a rather nice looking saw. All rubber av, vs spring/rubber on the newer ones. I am really liking these things.

    Those are very good, well built saws. Maybe a little heavy for what they are, but still a good performer that was built well. A close friend of mine has a 6700 and a newer 670. The 670 is noticeably lighter, but the 6700 has a lot more mag (the 670 having more plastic).
    We cut about 15-20 cords a year, and he primarily grabs his 6700 (I normally grab my 044 or 372).

    Guess I haven't felt the weight difference, but my 670 has a 32" on it lol.

    Once my other 670 shows up, I'll have to compare it to the remaining 6700.

    I am really liking this series of saw. Pretty compact and rugged design. A little lacking in cc per weight. I think my 670 would upset most stock 044/372. It is still relatively tame. Now this one should be a good bit better than the 670 performance wise.

    They seem to respond well to modification. Just the darn muffler is pretty choked up, and brazed together.

    Went wild on opening the muffler, stock was the one 1/2" tube for the small chamber (cylinder side) and one 3/8 hole for the front chamber. I knocked a hole in the divider plate too.

    Capped it with one of my medium deflectors.

    That looks good with that Windsor bar on it! Sounds like a "happy" saw Joe. Hopefully we can meet up Saturday shoot the chit and run some saws!

    This saw is sporting a cs800 carb, really think the tiny air filter is holding it back a bit.

    Actually amazing it runs at all with that carb. Ebay special. Must have been full of water, full of al corrosion/rusty needles. Bit of elbow grease seems to work well.

    Never would have guessed in a million years it would work at all.

    Even passed my "work saw" test idle for 15min then continue cutting.

    Thank you, not sure if it is quite there yet... gonna do some more testing tomorrow.

    Hopefully Saturday works out. This time I'll get everything dialed in and bring skeeter spray lol.

    bone stock 6700, 150 comp set round 12,500 it didn't want to go much leaner.

    Well, I guess the comp is higher than I thought. checked it after a lunch break cool down.

    Feels a good bit stronger without an air filter, might try an adapt a green weenie..

    Saw really seems to wake up round 14,400-14,600. don't think the larger carb is helping at all, feels a little lacking in the mid range. still feels pretty strong. ill try putting a stock carb back on sometime.
