Backwoods Savage would be looking for more top covering.Because he would finally have a 20 year plan!
Gassifier would be eating breakfast because he got hungry cutting it down that morning,
PapaDave would be mumbling something about more gooder!
Some one would mention that it doesn't dry down in log form!

Uhhmm... it was the midi-chlorians. Credit where credit is due.

 

I was around 3-4 years old, much too young to really remember, but my Grandfather took me down to see some Rock Maple Logs he gave away to a guy whose home had burned and who needed lumber to replace his cabinets. We have always had big trees so for my Grandfather to walk me down as a young child to see some logs meant they were not just huge from a child's perspective, but because they were HUGE. I would say they were 4 feet or so in diameter.

 

My great grandfather was a logger in Canada. So was my grandfather until he was 25. He got married then and had 9 kids. Great Grandfather got killed by a log cutting accident in the saw mill. I'm told it was a kick back accident. They used to go into the woods and stay there for months. Can't imagine living like that.

 

I have got a wife and four daughters, it sounds like heaven to me!

I am only joking and know what you mean. I worked for the railroad and spent 12 weeks on and 2 weeks off, working around the globe. It was interesting, but hard on marriages, my first marriage included.

I have a book here at the house, written 1n 1966 when things were changing in the Maine logging industry, but just in time to get the interviews of the old duffers that had logged. Some interesting stories for sure. The writer bashed the 1966 loggers for living in prefabricated houses that were moved about, a practice still done today, and for going home on weekends, but touted up the virtues of living in old log camps that were lice and flea ridden. No thanks. The Christian Camp where I volunteer does a mens retreat every year with 200 men bunking up in the bunk rooms and I am so glad I live 7 miles away as I go home and sleep with my wife and in my own bed. The snoring alone from 200 men is so bad, they have to provide ear plugs.

 

Ear plugs would not be the only thing they would have to supply...............................especially after the Baked Bean Supper the night before...........

 

In high school and college I worked at a sawmill. The owner was an old Swiss guy who was very strict. You were at your machine and running @8 am and you didn't turn it off until lunch and the same in the afternoon. If 2 guys were stacking lumber he wouldn't let you talk to each other. I learned so many great lessons and I'm better employee because of it.
