My neighbours boss wanted a folding hide away bed so naturally Petes wood shop and garage got volunteered so naturally I volunteered too. It doesn't look like much yet but its getting there! It will be anchored to the wall and fold up to look like a cabinet when its not in use. Of course Petes PBR is a must because as everyone knows power tools and beer make you safer!
I haven't seen where it goes yet all I know is what she wanted and that that bugger is expensive to build! It was $186 the first run to Home Depot, $157 the second run $93 tonight. That is all the lumber needed. It will still need glue on veneer caps and stain or paint depending on how they decide to go once its in place. What was explained is it has to go down a set of stairs at a 90 degree angle and will have to be taken apart and re assembled in the basement.
Yup its kinda nice! Unlike a lot of my builds this one has REALLY detailed plans and came with all the hardware so its all just measure and cut. Usually I do the build and measurements in my head for a few weeks then build it. ( lots of sleepless nights ) I thought thats what I was doing this time and then saw the kit! Really a very nice set of hardware too I keep worrying I will scratch it.
Nothing wrong with building from plans or kit. Cut list, details and dimensions Just don't cut yourself short on labor, because you having fun building it
The kit is a great way to go, if you have never built a "Murphy" bed. I've done two and both turned out great. Sorta a "no brainer" once you get going. But, nice work Pete just the same, still takes patience.
How have you been Marty? haven't seen you in a while my friend I've been a busy fella and not here as much as I want to be. Yes patients with all wood projects... Thank you Marty! I gotta tell you if I build another it will not be plywood and I already know what changes need to happen. The plans are dummy proof and that's actually a small problem. I like to do more detailed work than this when I build furniture but this isn't my bed so we are following what the buyer wants.
Pete, Me as well spring, summer and fall pretty busy for me. I do try to catch up with everyone while I'm having my morning coffee. Keep up the good work. Marty
