Decided enough is enough. Got into the Yellow Jackets while bush hogging a couple weeks ago. I escaped with only a couple stings, once to the hand and once to the head. Last Thursday evening I mowed a lawn for a widow friend of mine and got into another nest with the Kubota. No so lucky that time...they got me ten times to the hands, legs back and head. Tonight while mowing my own lawn, I discovered 2 more nests on my property. The war is on now! I sprayed one nest and burned the other. I will check the results in the morning and repeat if necessary
Man, that sucks...... or stings! Give em hell...... I took out a colony of wasps today, lukily w/o getting stung. They seem to be pretty bad this year. Good luck- and 10 stings ain't no joke!
That's the truth.... I've been stung twice this year, and can't remember the how long it was before that. I think that makes like three or four on FHC that have gotten hit pretty hard this year....
Loaded with bees here too...A month ago we were loaded with sweat bees, but they seem to have calmed down!!
Woodchuck , have a can of spray at the ready each time you hop on the mower. I know the nests you can't see may give you some trouble but you gotta tell Em who boss.
Make sure you attack after dusk or right before the first light of day to ensure you get as many as possible. Though I am sure you already know that.
I've had my share of run-ins with them and bald faced hornets the past several years....worst one was that HUGE nest that was in my stacks. Haven't seen hardly any yellow jackets this entire year, after taking several nests out. Hope it stays that way!!
I've been lucky, I found a nest in my yard when I moved in 4 years ago but haven't seen any since them. A buddy of mine has gotten his name out that he removes honey bee nests , last week some guy living in suburbia asked him to come out and remove a honey bee nest in his yard. Turned out to be yellow jackets! He paid my buddy $200, all it cost him was a trip to the hardware store for a can of spray!
Haven't had any groundies yet...but all the other wasps and whatnot have been out in force. The corn bees were un-freakin-real up until a couple weeks ago. After I find a nest I'll mark all the holes...dump some gas down each hole and seal it off with a stick jammed down the hole.
Got wasp attacked in the yard and went riot control tear gas on their bee-hinds. Fired up the propane insect fogger and gassed their butts. 2 days later found another nest and turned the hose on it and power washed the evil little bastages to death!
One time ( there might have been beer involved) there was a low hanging paper wasp nest at my buddies and I bet him and a couple of other guys that I could kiss it without getting stung, and I did! We were all laughing and a lone wasp came like a streak out of nowhere and nailed me on my hand! Gary
Just took out a wasp nest on my pool sliding board last weekend. I got buzzed several times and thought for sure I was going to get whacked but didn't. I had a yellow jacket nest in the middle of my big stack last year but couldn't tell for sure exactly where it was and I wasn't about to start moving splits to find it. I blew a lot of sevin dust in and through the stacks and that did the trick.
Yellow Jackets are dangerous, one bee can sting you more than once, moving an old wood pile they came right out in my face stung me about 40 times, face, head, neck, waist, back, arms, live and dead bees in the house, stripped my clothes off on the back deck, got in the shower, dead and live bees in the bathroom, , having trouble breathing, scary chit , the worst day of my life. Used a gallon of gas, Burned the whole wood pile 2-3 weeks to recover
