All the wood I have is going to get heavy when it rains tomorrow. :( I will try to unload a good portion of it today after work. Going to be hot though. I don't have enough of anything to cover all the barn wood. But it is or will be sticked so will continue to dry.

That is one big load of wood, I feel your pain of having to unload it and restack it in on stickers.

Contemplating a bottom up chimney snake and brush this fall. The sweep gets $225.00 each fall for 25 mins work, and it's something I can do if I had the tools. If I did own the tools I may even sweep it more than 1x for peace of mind

Good morning, no work on the garage yesterday, Helped Hippy Bob box the soffits on his barn build,,it was hot and on ladders, some of 'em 14' long,,it took me a minute to get used to being up on the ladders.
I failed at slow smoking ribs last evening,,dammit...think I had way too many in the smoker, and my charcoal wasn't holding up.
Gonna' be a nice day, time to get the move on. Have a good day, stay hydrated and be safe.

That is a lot. My guy will do it for $120 now. Price has gone up a little over the years. But, I found that the cap is where I get the most. So I have him clean the whole thing once a year and I clean the chimney cap with an extendable pole saw I have (When it's cold.) Just by lightly banging on it and placing saw between opening and rattling it around in there. Then going to plug on bottom and cleaning out the bottom. I also take apart my exhaust pipe from boiler to chimney and clean all that myself, then re-seal everything. I will clean cap before I start burning. Then I think I will have him come in November, after I have burned for a month or so.

Does your home owners insurance require professional cleaning? Mine doesn't but I've heard some do. Worth checking out.

That's a good question! I don't have an actual answer as it would be instructed to me by an insurance agent. However, when I had the stove install completed in 08' the ins co asked for a copy of the permit the building inspector signed off on. And when I advised them of the completed install they also had me fill out a questionnaire related to wood burning appliances. I would think in all of this contact with the insurance co they would advise me about professional sweeps to do the cleaning. Does your insurance co make you use pros to sweep?

Chance of rain for my area has now gone down to 20% for Thursday. That is down from 80% chance a few days ago.

Mine does not but the agent said that some do and the company insuring me doesn't and that was a good thing.

I will take that rain you are happy to get rid of (or the chance anyway). I've gotten 0.02" in the last couple of weeks (all by drizzle) and we were already about 8" under for the summer anyway.

    Rant alert....

    Dear Coworker,

You're a nice enough guy...but stop b!+$#ing about how you're broke all the time. You make more $ than I do for one. Two, you shouldn't have bought that big azz boat that you dump $150 in fuel into every weekend and pay $80 a month just to park it because it is too big to pull back and forth. Maybe if you brought a lunch to work once in a while, stopped buying $5 coffees every day, didn't buy a new car every year, and stopped paying a rediculous ammount of $ for other stupid stuff you don't need life would be easier for you. Cry me a fn river.

    End of rant.

When I grow up I want to be a full time wood cutter, tinkerer, woodworker, gardener, hunter, mountain biker, camper, and hiker. Maybe some other stuff too. And I don't want to wait until I'm too old to be able to do it either. No money pit boats for me.

Yes. I worked 6 hours today at the real job and then took 2 hours time off and came home and started unloading that trailer. Man, is it hot. I have almost 1/3 of the trailer unloaded. Break time in the A/C with ice water. Then back out to do another round in about 15 minutes.
