Yes it comes with the new radiator. The actual radiator is the same, they just added the stainless shield.

It still flakes but it's caught by the shield.

If its difficult to remove they will replace it for free. That's what they did for me. If you are down here bring it with you, the chucked mine right out into the scrap pile and gave me the new one.

Thanks for the pics. The newer radiator has 3 holes to accept the SS plate and the thin plate in picture 1 seems to be in good shape. Are you happy with it?

It does end up pushing up close to the radiator itself due to expansion and such but I don't get any of the flakes sitting on top of the cat affecting it's performance anymore. So that is a good thing.

I know this is a lot belated but; Great pic! When I zoom in I can actually see the texture you've described, 'sand-like' . NOT gooey, ooey and black. Easy to deal with evidence of a clean, efficient burn.
I'm glad I own this stove....

I can happily report some of the same after cleaning my flu about 3 weeks ago. A sand like material and a brownish ash collected at the bottom of my tee. Total accumulation was approx. 2 cups

I cleaned my IS out for the first time a week ago. Ran it last season from the first week of December. I did have quite a bit more creosote in the flue than my Jotul, but my Jotul burned like a rocket and this stove spent a majority of the season idling low and slow, and in many cases my inexperience with it led to stalled cats and whatnot. So I was expecting a bit more. Still not bad at all though, I brushed the 6" liner (~22 feet) from the roof and let it pile up in the bottom of the tee behind the stove. It filled up the tee to about the bottom of the opening, maybe 6 or 8 cups? I could measure and calculate that but I'm at work. Just fine crumbly stuff 1/8" - 3/16" or so thick.

T-Stew when you mentioned the stalled cat, was that during long slow burns only? Did your IS ever run super hot last season?

Oh I had everything during the learning, loads that took forever to catch, reloads that put it out, backing down the draft too soon, nothing in particular just a little of everything. I also had some loose fitting pipe that I could actually see into, so I'm sure I was cooling the stack a bit with some extra room air, got that fixed up after I disassembled to clean. I'm not really sure what super hot is, my Jotul would run 700-800 almost everytime I had a full load of black locust, I never saw those kind of temps with the IS (that was a good thing that I could keep it under better control) but plenty of burns that went over 500 on the stove top, 1400+ on the cat. That is just a vague recollection from last year, I might of been past 600 a few times can't remember.

Doing one of my break-in burns right now. I can't tell if the stove is leaking smoke from under the bonnet and around the flue adapter or if it's just cooking off VOCs from the paint so fast that it's basically smoking over its entire body.

First burn was 3 big splits plus progressively smaller stuff on down to kindling to get it going. We had horrid burnt paint/new exhaust smell that meant we had to keep every window and door in the house open for about 12 hours. I don't recall exact numbers but flue temps were in the 400s and stove top temps were ~300 +/- 50F-ish. This one is 4 big splits plus a little more intermediate stuff. Today, I can see the smoke but the burning paint smell isn't quite as strong. The big difference in the seeing part is probably that it's earlier in the day and the sun is beating in the windows near the stove. The flue temp has stabilized around 720F (thermocouple probe inside double-wall) and the stove top temp is running 350-530F (infrared thermometer) depending on exactly where you measure.

well flue Temps are about right IF you have not dropped the cat bypass... wondering if smoke is not curing of gasket glue.. I got an IS.. smoke in house is a no no... same with any stove.. there are basically 4 gaskets on the stove.. top lid, the cat, front door and ash pan if you got one.. is it a wood smoke smell or hard to tell because of the fumes.... fwiw you will get smell every time stove body get to a new high temp but a whole lot less of it..

The cat is engaged at these temps.

I don't *think* it smells like wood smoke at all. However, the paint smell is still so incredibly strong it could easily hide it. The stove has now stopped visibly smoking. The STTs are down about ~50F and the flue temp is down about 75F from peak. I'm now opening the air back up in stages to try to keep the temps up and finish the fire sooner so that the house will air out and we can close up the windows before it gets too cold outside tonight.

I am surprised how much air I'm running though. I only got half way closed at the peak of the cycle and I'm now back up to just one big tick below full open. Other people have made it sound like they run their IS nearly fully shut all the time.

You can see the paint curing right off sometimes. I wouldn't be worried at this point.

I run my IS in shoulder season almost closed.. I got great draft.. my glass and stove are often dark.. especially after reloading after an hour.. I am using magnets on SW pipe and left hand side of stove.. I drop my cat when flue Temps are 550 to 600 (your numbers mine are 275 to 300) then lower the air intake to about half.. the fire you see inside start to slow down and flames dance from the top down.. then drop after 5 minutes to first big notch from closed or about quarter open.. at this point my flue temp drops and my stove top Temps go higher..

Well, I'm all the way back open to full air now just to try to hold the flue temps >600F and the STTs >400F.

    That surprises me.

why do you want your flu Temps so high? how dry is your wood? are you sure you cat is in correctly and gaskets are good? I think you are ok.. I just think you are making same error I did in beginning.. trying to get fire to show.. stove throws more heat with no flame.. have you read a thread called tips and tricks of IS
