I have been debarking/recutting/restacking what remained of my original pile (in the member id pic) as it has become a mess. Too many dropped leaves, walnuts and limbs and not enough air. Most of it is just fine, but smaller rounds that were not split are being chucked. Recutting to fit the newer stove size. Done about 4 cords over the last 2 days. Great weather around here right now. Snuck out early this morning to shoot clays too.
Got the liner swept, real happy with results this year. got less than half the light fluffy stuff than I got last year Swept the liner today and... | Firewood Hoarders Club
The spaghetti and taco ideas were scratched for hamburger&veggie soup.....my wife's favorite. Haven't gotten the Beech split, but did get out to the shop for a little while. Also started cleaning up the tractor shed. I'm finding stuff I forgot I had.
If you don't have a sand blaster I would use a wire wheel so you can get down in them pits, then some etching primer.
Got the fields around my tree stand bush hogged, visited with my brother, washed the car and truck, and just got in from a 3 mile jog/2 mile walk-about all the running this old guy can do. Chicken spiedies on the grill, maybe a beer or 2, and then back to school-teachers back tomorrow and the students the next day.
Awesome day today! Not much wood gathering but a fun day though. I did cut down my first green maple and I'm anxious to see how it seasons.
Now to wash the vehicle before I stiffen up too much...some of you guys are getting old-27 holes of golf used to be a walk in the park-"A good walk spoiled" as Twain would say...
Thanks, I was just going to ask what I should go over it once I thought I was done. Rain looked like it was moving in and my sanding disk was shot so I gave it a light coat of regular primer for the night. I will find my wire wheel then hit the parts store for that etching primer.
Cycled 50 miles Saturday then 32 miles Sunday then breakfast with fellow cyclists at our favorite spot. Kayaked 12 miles today followed be grilled chicken topped with my homemade barbeque sauce. Now a bit of porch time and probably a fire on the back porch after sunset to send off the long weekend.
I did manage to set a tree stand. Worked on a blind. Highlight of the day was watching a movie with wife then going to neighbor to let his twin boys shoot my rifle. They've been wanting to shoot it but were a bit afraid of it. All went well and they really like it. They are almost 11 years old now. Growing like bad weeds.
I bet they will remember this day for the rest of their lives! I still remember getting my first rifle and going out shooting with my dad. Years later I took my boys out shooting with the same gun. Great memories in deed!
A little late to the party, just got back from a 4 day atving/camping trip in Potter County Pa. 216 miles on the RZR. Absolutely beautiful weather! Happy Labor Day, FHC!
God's Country. I love the mountains. A few maples were getting some color. Probably from the heat/dry.
Looks like most everyone had a good day, one way or another, after all. For most of us, it is what you make it to be. I actually got out and did some bush trimming. I haven't been able to do that for two years. Maybe there is hope yet.
