The dog went out this morning and killed a skunk on the front lawn. Yup, the dog on my avatar. Stinks like crazy, and the wife ain't happy. I just washed him in a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and Dawn dish detergent. I found that one online.

Any ideas what else I can do?

Take him to the doggie spa (aka groomer) and let them deal with it. Tell them not to call you until he's fresh again. That's what I'd do anyway.

Thanks. We have a groomer for the other dogs, so we'll give that a try when she opens.

Tomato juice, according to an old wives tale. Your concoction would probably be more affective.

You already found the best thing I found when our dog got it. The trick is you have to leave the peroxide, baking soda and then dawn on for a time before you rinse it off. It's painful for you and the dog......been there.

And the tomato juice does not work very well.

    Get a new dog...

Seriously though, my co-workers have gone through it multiple times. They say the peroxide, dish soap treatment is the best thing they have found. Let it stay on the dog a while before rinsing, as suggested earlier. They also say any time the dog gets wet for a month or so, you'll smell it. Keep him off the furniture. Good luck!

It worked pretty good. Washed him with it one more time and then put him in the tub and shampooed him. Ol Boomer doesn't smell like the worst thing right now. Maybe my nose just got used to it. Lol.

That's one of my biggest fears with our pup. I cannot imagine dealing with that smell, however faint, for weeks to months. I can only imagine how my wife would deal with it. Lol! I feel for ya.

Now I've got to figure out how to get the stank off the lawn so he, or the other two dogs, won't roll in it. After he killed the skunk he rolled all over it and the stink stuff that was on the lawn. In 28 years of living here and tons of skunks, this was the first time any of our dogs got sprayed.

Yep, that is what I used as well. He stunk for a while (he has long fur), the house had an "eau de skunk" ambiance for 6 months, and he smelled like it everytime he got wet for about that length of time.

Next time I will just shoot the dog ... (not).

The two baths with the peroxide mix and the one after with the Nature's Miracle did a gooder job. The smell is so much better. Gonna give him another bath or two in a few days and that should do it. My wife called the groomer, and she said she uses the peroxide mix too. Again, thank you all for the help.
