What made you decide to buy property?

I can't remember if I've asked this before or not? I've been working on a friends double wide/ manufactured home? for a while now, they moved to Arkansas. The home is 2100 sq ft on 17 acres outside of town. It's fenced, well, septic etc all in place. I laid laminate floors in the laundry room, kitchen, dinning room, did all the base molding and door casings.

Nothing wrong with the structure built in 2004 I believe. There's no shop, garage, carport or trees just prairie grass. It's very quiet there compared to my city home but nothing that says I must move here. I have nothing against the house but I know it won't hold a lot of value in the years to come.

I'd have to build a shop so I could move out of the building I lease now. As I get older the thought of moving to another state gets less appealing.

The only view I'd have to look at would be a row of wind turbines to the East.

What part of AR did your friend move to?

 

The Ft. Smith area.

 

That's were I am tonight. I work in Ft. Smith.

 

We have a training area on Ft. Chaffee, I like the area but not the humility.

I don't particularly like either. I live an hour north. Very different. About 6F cooler. 2000' higher. Hilly and lots of trees.

 

What I really want is a cabin on a river/creek and trees. Not sure I want to pay for it all.

 

I've been teasing my wife, telling her we need to sell our place and get a little cabin in the woods. She says, we live in a little cabin in the woods. I say yes but a littler cabin and more trees.

 

Seclusion is nice!

 

A co-worker has a family farm in MI, they lease the land out, don't remember where?

I guess if your going to move, move to where you really want to be. I have a place in TX, NM and OR.

 

And where is it you'd like to be? One of those places?

 

Not really any of them, they all have pluses and minuses, like high tax rates. I'll start doing some serious location research.

 

Property is nice. Plus my mortgage is less than people I know pay to share a single room.

Another plus- I can pee off my back deck anytime I want, and never cause dogs to start howling or small children to cry.

 

On a walk in this area I saw a sign that said land for sale, I ask the wife would you be interested in buying it and she said what would we do with it and I said have a house built, we're very happy that we did everything when we did.

Our neighbor who sold us the land the house sits on sold us a much bigger piece about four years later, we consider ourselves very lucky and very happy our neighbor sold both parcels to us.

He told me one of the reasons he sold to us was he like the lifestyle we lived and he thought that we would take care of the land (we did) he just wanted to live the rest of his life in peace and not worry about the land having hunting clubs and logged off while he was alive. He passed on earlier this spring, we kept our promise which was done with a handshake before the closing.

Very nice place but way over priced IMHO. They need more pics of the land.
