Ha, Minnesota and Wisconsin have distinct dialect differences. Mix in the large amount of Czech people that are living around here makes for some good listening.

Anyone have any tips on posting pics with this forum? Or do you need to link photos from a photo website?

I'm a n00B here, found out about the forum via woodstock wood stoves. I somehow talked my way into testing their new Ideal Steel stove, so I thought I would contribute to the community while I do. Our house came with a tiny little 1982 Vermont Castings Intrepid. We have used it a little bit since purchasing the home but it just didnt put off enough heat to make it worthwhile. I grew up with a Scott woodstove in Canada and am looking forward to getting back to heating our place. As of right now I am using a mix of purchased cord wood and wood I have been able to get from friends that have had trees taken down. I currently have primarily Maples and Oak.

Hey Zee, welcome!! and congrats on the Ideal Steel!

Where are you located? I'm guessing you're an east coast guy, maybe even New England? What sized house are you heating? ...there is a LOT of difference between a new Hybrid Ideal Steel and a 1982 VC! :)

What you will find here is a lot of very knowledgeable and friendly people, many of whom own Woodstock stoves. I've been up to Lebanon a few times myself and recently brought home a WS Fireview that is keeping me toasty right now. Down here in north central Mass.

You'll also find that we're not happy unless we are looking at LOTS of pics! The more the better. So please post away and tell us all about your install, your observations and anything else you might like to share or ask.

Also please poke around the forum and explore some of the many other topics and threads we have going.

    Welcome to FHC!

Steve I am a New Englander, at least for the last 7 years. I live just outside Manchester NH. I'll start a fresh thread with some more pictures of the new stove and install.

My house is about 1800 sq ft on the two upper floors, with another 400 or so finished in the basement. I don't have any good ways to move heat to the upper floor, but I am hopeful I'll see the first floor get a lot warmer than it did with the Intrepid.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

ZeeB! I think you will solve a lot of your problems with heat with that stove.

This forum is a blast! ...and as you start using your new heater you can get some input from others here that are also heating with it.

I love the Maple Leaf andirons in your avatar.

2'F here this AM and my Fireview is loaded and doing itself proud.

An "old hippie" thought I ought to say hello here. I had joined a while back but never really stayed long enough I guess. Stupid.

I can't explain why I like working in the woods in the winter mostly, but I do. And, on this forum, no splaining is needed  We just moved to this small town in Maine, Turner, and we love the lot the house came with. For me (while my wife and I were looking for a place) it was almost like, "Oh, it comes with a house too"… because the 12 acre woodlot (99% hardwood) down back is perfect for me to easily haul up logs to stack near the garage/shop for bucking and splitting later. The stacks are even in the sun most of the day. The wood is oak, ash and maple mostly with more than enough ready now and 10x that coming along behind. Whoever lived here a couple of owners back made 2 starts on woods trails so it's a big help getting to some good trees to harvest right away. It's my little patch a heaven for sure.

I built a 6 cord woodshed last fall. It's a start. Still have a few "set-ups" to help me with a bad back. Bet there's more than a few who can relate. All a work in progress. Really like this forum a lot :fire:

I second that. A lot of work but nice and close to the house.

Yeah, I really did go nuts about the woodlot a little too much with my wife while we were considering different places. She's pretty amazing and though she might not admit it, she knew I hardly even knew there was a house here cause I was always down in the woods checking it out.
