You rock man! 20-25" in a treestand, climbing or fixed is my limit-I know you're rigged up as I am but, no...just no I have no fear of heights at all-it's the fear of falling that gets me...
No, not the stump but further up. Looks like about a 12' log then where you started bucking. That cut right at the top of the log looks crooked.
Oh OK I see it. Must've just been the way we cut that one....lol Chains were razor sharp and, amazingly, we didn't hit anything stone or metal in them....
Betting several gallons of sweat went with those monsters. 80°s , 90°s & high humidity ? Good job & Nice pics
That stump looked pretty good to me. A fairly even hinge that didn't pull out much and otherwise a clean cut. The release wood for the bore cut never entered my mind as an issue. I bore cut lots of things and they are never as clean looking as the riskier chase from the back.
That's very impressive Scotty, I don't have much experience climbing and cutting. like a few others have said, I'd be hanging on with both hands to the point of being useless for work in the tree. You are amazing up there!
That's EXACTLY where we were on Tuesday evening!! We'll have to get together some weekend and hang out.....
The woman in the house directly across the street used to watch me when I was little. I grew up on the level rd, which if you follow Coach up past the highway dumps you out on. Couldnt tell you how many times me and my buddies would ride those roads on our bikes.
How do you do that? Trimming seems to find lots of metal. Hope your luck holds out and keep up the good work.
Scotty Overkill could you snap a picture sometime of the harness, equipment, etc. you use to do your work?
Awesome work, Scotty! Those are some big ones for sure! Just out of curiosity, do you guys have any type of liability insurance to do these removals? I own my own construction business and I have 2 mil in general liability insurance. I am pondering getting into small scale/part time tree removal and I was just curious as to how that end of it works.
I have it all scattered in the wind, but sometime soon I'll gather it up and get some pics, I'm due to wash my one harness and also my ropes as well. I don't use detergent when I wash that stuff, just hot wash/cool rinse with water..... I've got several runs of Yale 13mm climbing rope, several 11mm runs as well, ranging from 50' to 200' in length. They're for climbing. Several 15mm ropes for bull rope, a SALA climbing harness and also a Buckingham climbing saddle, a pair of Buckingham gaffs that I started out on and my recently aquired (and favorite) Klein gaffs with monster pads, several Petzl ascenders, lots and lots of Petzl locking caribiners, several DDM locking caribiners and micro pulleys, several homemade climbing bridges and lanyards, a Treestuff wire-cored lanyard, the list goes on. I've got a lot of $$$ in climbing stuff .....
Being I mainly do this work for firewood aquisition, I stay away from any jobs that are too risky. The insurance to do this work is ASTRONOMICAL, so if the job is too risky to property, I simply have to pass on it.
