I am amazed at how much shorter the days are getting and then realized that the first day of fall is right around the corner. Lots of leaf color change too. Some caused by the weather but lots of it is normal at this time of year too. Another thing we've noticed is some birds already leaving. For example, we have not seen any male grosbeaks for about a week now. Other birds are getting into big flocks. Yes, things are changing and will change a lot in the next few weeks. That is good!

I love seeing this change. Right now, here, the goldenrod is popping, the soybeans are just starting to turn in some fields, and the corn is just starting to dry ever so slightly. Some maples are getting a yellowish tint mixed with their green. Its coming! I'll know for sure when my hummingbirds leave me.

Yes, the hummers have a few weeks left yet. I've been chopping corn as our sweet corn is all done now and that really reminds me of fall. Now if it would just cool off...

Yes I see it coming. Took an after work ride last night and came out of the woods as it was getting hard to see where the trees were thick. Although the thermometer isn't acting like it yet.

I think it is about October 10 that we see the last ones here. They must be all over your feeders now, fighting over them and getting fat.

Geese are now moving. In the evenings flocks are just above the tree tops heading to the local reservoir for the night.

Aside from shortened mornings, we're just not seeing the change yet. But yes, still hot here.

The hummers are going crazy over the feeder and all of our flowers. More so than normal.

I am SO ready for it to cool down. We had 30+ days in a row in the nineties. Very unusual here.

I'm ready for some wood cutting, and being able to open the windows at night, and that smell of leaves you get when the leaves are coming down. The colors are the best part for me. I love the maples that turn orange/red!

I've seen a lot of stressed out trees and shrubs. Usually that isn't good for fall foliage color. This area depends on the tourist coming up to see the colors. Has been getting to be one of the most busy times of the year. Saw some pumpkins out for sale. Picked up some fall mums to put in. We always want the color right up until hard frost. I planted some fall greens. No idea if they will make it or not, but if these hot days continue, I'll get a fall crop. I've got some cherry tomatoes in the greenhouse that look really good. They will keep up until the green house gets too cold in late Nov.
All in all, it has been a good year with lots of good sunny days. The kids have been in the pool most every day. They have said the water is getting cooler. What I haven't seen so far is the typical morning August ground fog. Maybe it is just too dry for that. We still need rain. Lots of it. Hurricane season is speeding up. We usually get a few coastal storm even if we don't always get a direct hit with the hurricanes. When we do get hit, there is plenty of firewood to be taken care of.

My new office assistant is a recent college grad. from Georgia. Drawl and all....:emb:
She brought doughnuts in to work this morning, to celebrate the snow last night.( it was up high but the peaks were covered.)
She was actually excited to see it.
Check with us in April we said, then check back in May. Poor girl doesn't understand yet, but she will. It's coming, and too soon for me.

Yup, we are having to refill the feeders about every third day now. Hilarious when you walk anywhere near the feeders as you are liable to be buzzed.

we have had a couple of almost collisions while being buzzed. Gonna miss the lil' fellas when they do go.

I was unloading a half dozen pallets at 6:00 this morning when I heard a Turkey calling close by, I looked around and didn't see anything, next thing I know, one Turkey and then another flew out of a Spruce tree across the road. Roosting for the night they were, pretty neat.

This topic is near and dear to me, I'm a BIG FAN of the changing seasons, and the up-and-coming season is one of my favorite times of the year!

Been seeing quite a few more deer in the field every evening (including twin bucks that are both wall hangers!!), the cooler nights and dew-covered grass in the mornings are sure signals that fall is ccoming!!

Won't be long til we'll be firing up a shoulder season fire or two!!!

We too have been having terrible problems with bees. I saw 5 hummers together this morning. Not sure how many we have total.
