I know it's not "factory", but I plan on getting one of these for my next truck.

The 2.7 was introduced in 2015. It's been much more reliable in it's first couple years than the 3.5, which had teething issues.

I've seen those. Almost put one in my current truck. But they are VERY flimsy, are also in the way often... just not like the built in Rambox. Ford is stupid for not offering that.

That baby DuraMax is very quiet too, no roar, more of a purr. Just enough sound to let you know there are no spark plugs. ;)

If you don't care for the looks of the Colorado, try the GMC Canyon. Same truck, just dresses better. Both Nimble around town too.

    I like that. Easily removable.

Nissan has these storage boxes on the new Titan. They are removable too. Screenshot_2016-08-26-18-26-22.png

Good read outlining the positives and negatives of both trucks without all the monkey poo flinging.

    Yes, that's a great article.

Here's the takeaway from that article. A quote actually

"If you’re using your truck the way most people do most of the time these days (as point-to-point transportation), it’s hard to make a case against the EcoBoost. It offers all of the benefits of a gas engine all the time, and most of the benefits of a diesel when called upon. It’s also inherently cleaner than diesel, just by virtue of the fact that gas burns hotter and more thoroughly. For most people, then, the EcoBoost is almost certainly the better choice. Unless you spend a lot of time hauling serious tonnage, it will to prove cheaper to operate and probably a lot more fun to drive.

But, if you’re using your truck the way trucks are meant to be used – as utilitarian movers of heavy objects – then you’ll likely find a diesel the best tool for the job. Not only will the diesel return better fuel economy when it’s working, it will do any job you ask of it without strain or complaint, all day, every day, probably for many years to come without failure. There’s something to be said for taking life low and slow."

Mind you, this is the 2.7 ecoboost in comparison to the Ecodiesel.

The entire article needs to be read by anyone even considering either these trucks.

I know it confirms what truck I'd buy.

I do not want to play, I want to put the Dodge on the trailer and watch them pull it. Should max out their load rating, just need a decent hill to pull up, then down and see who can stop it. STOPPING is more important then getting it moving.

They DO NOT get anywhere near 21mpg! I've now test driven 7 or 8 of them now, all with between 9k and 24k on them. The average MPG on the gauges are all showing between 13 and 17, on ALL of them!! The one I drove last night was the worst at 13. The bed was kinda dirty, so it looked like it was used as a work truck, and had exactly 20,002 miles on it, and said overall avg of 13.1MPG. The Trip A had 600 miles on it, and said 13.3MPG on it.[/QUOTE]

13-17MPG is on a truck that gets backed out of a parking spot on the dealers lot, idles for 15-20min while they tell the customer all about it, then the customer goes out and sees how it runs, and the salesman may take it to lunch or home for the night and run the crap out of it.

If you are talking over a long period like 600 miles, maybe the person let the truck idle a lot. Idling kills MPGs.

I know a guy that 2016 F-150 3.5 ecoboost and he is getting 20-21mpg. I know people at have 2014 and older ecoboost and they 19mpg. I'm sure out on the highway on a trip they would do better.
