harman control board function?

For you experienced harman gurus! This will be my first year coming up and I was wwondering how would the control react if I went from room temp directly counter clockwise to stove temp mode without shut down? Or does it need to be shut down first?

 

I did it a few times last year with the p43 while running , no shut down , no issues .

I do it all the time, almost daily in the dead of winter. I run it in room temp when at work then switch to stove temp once I get home. Just make sure you hesitate in the off position for a second or 2, otherwise the stove won't recognize that you changed modes.

 

Neither of my stoves have ever cared - they just do what I tell them to do. I actually switch quickly and haven't had an issue with the stoves not recognizing the change, but they are newer so the contacts (or whatever) probably haven't worn as much as Sub's stoves. Probably won't hurt to hesitate at the Off position though.

I usually only use stove temp (now Constant Burn) when its REALLY cold out.....otherwise Room Temp!

pretty much room temp all the time. i have the sensor positioned with a pencil holding it where i want it on the brick work of the fireplace... seems to work perfectly. i simply add pellets in the morning and at night...told my spouse not to touch the sensor or the settings. 70 degrees in the living room, 65 or so in the bedroom upstairs...i'm good with that!

 

Sensor just hanging behind the stove per dealer recommendations. Dont like that idea

 

I'm not a big room temp guy , I prefer stove temp / constant burn , I like seeing the fire .

 

The main floor stove is on a thermostat but on those really cold (negative numbers anyway), windy nights, I turn it over to stove temp because the bedroom 40' down the hall will get too cold between firings. Plus, the stove will fire like 5 minutes after it went out anyway, so I figure it makes more sense to have it run constantly.

The basement stove is on room temp (using the probe) except during wicked cold spells.

 

never believe you're dealer, unless its me......

don't be shy about moving the probe around...it doesn't work the same for everyone in the same place.....mine sits on a windowsill

 

Harman manual said 50ft max so i moved it 30ft and the stove didnt pick it up. Then my dealer tells me the manual is wrong its 25ft max. At this point frustrated cause the wire was run in the wall before i resheathed i snipped it flush and gave up

 

I generally don't recommend extending the wire....
1. adds unknowns in operation....loose connections possibly where you cant get at them (in the wall?)
2. poor positioning of the probe 25' away is likely worse than 3' away

 

Nahh wire was one piece in the wall. No connections. Dosent matter any more. Will run it in stove temp if room temp dosent work well

 

You can put it on a thermostat if you don't want to run it in stove temp. That's how I have the P43 set up and only change it to stove temp during extremely cold and/or windy nights.

 

but there would have to be ONE extra connection, doubling your chances of a bad connection........

 

Lordz, I switch between the two modes on both stoves, no issues - pause or not. One thing to note is you will most likely find yourself adjusting the temp dial when you switch modes, I always do.
