If you've seen my picture in the "loaded truck pic" thread then you will know I have a lifetime supply on kindling. That being said, I'm planning to make a nice box to store some in the house by the fireplace. Nothing huge, it will sit by the fireplace and be a combination of function and decoration. Building it wont be a problem ( I am a carpenter by trade). I would like to see some pictures of what ya'll have and use though. Perhaps I will see something I haven't thought of or see a design I like better than I what I have in mind. So if yall don't mind post up some pictures.

    Thanks!

This I gotta' see. I have the impossible task of trying to keep our labs from turning kindling (and sometimes splits) into mulch.
I've tried a couple different things, but whatever I end up using will need a lid.

Since my wood stove is in my unfinished basement, I use 5 gallon buckets and collect splitter scraps. I also have a 25 gallon trash can full of noodles. I'll spare you the pics LOL!

I use a coal bucket next to the stove for kindling but I built this wood box for splits.

I like that wooden box, if I could find a smaller one. I have a wood wasting fireplace in the house and I need a place for kindling/starters. I made a table to hold small amounts of wood and still look decent. image.jpeg

Like that. Good use of the wood holder and the plank.

Thanks! I have a ton of rough cut oak I saved from an old sawmill. I just bent rebar and welded brackets to make the legs

Even better, I thought the iron part was one of the units that you can buy for that. You took it from the ground up, all original. Looks like a nice place to sit in that chair and relax for a while.

I use a milk crate too-they're of little use for anything else, besides milk and car wash towels mounted to the wall in the garage...

I can tell by your username we would get along. I'm as cheap as they come.

I ran my outdoor wood burner from October to June last year because I hate the propane company. With it heating the air and water in the house I refuse to pay for propane.

We have propane for heat and hot water, but it is a brand new system and 95% efficient. However, we don't use it for our primary heat. For now, I burn pellets. Love the wood heat. Being fairly physically limited, at least burning pellets is the next best thing to wood.

I have a 500 gallon propane tank and I use about 25% all year. It keeps the pilot lights lit in the winter and heats the water in the summer.

Here is the wood box I use. I made it from an old oak bureau and the side plate of my dads old Jotul 602. It holds a tote bag of splits and bits of kindling.

    That is sweet!

My kindling holder is an old canvas LL Bean bag. Not pic worthy.

came up with this last night, small compartment for box of matches, section behind that will hold newspaper and the large section is obviously for the kindling. Debating on wether or not I want the top hinged or completely removable
