Michigan Weather/Tornado Warning

There's a tornado warning in Holland.
Grand Rapids, MI

Missed me by about 15 miles. Interesting day, that's for sure.

 

Lots of trees down a bit south of GR in the Wyoming area. Thought I might have to take a run downtown to make sure we had power at work, but a coworker beat me to it. Everything is good.

All I had at home was about an inch of rain. We needed it.

 

The dealership I work for has a location in Wyoming,Mi. I don't know anyone there, but I hope everyone in the area is okay. Glad everyone here is okay.

We got a thunder dunder and some rain but Most everything went north of me

 

Some of it hit just a couple of miles from my daughters house in Grand Rapids. A year or so ago they had one within a mile of their place.

Had one hit our house in 1989. We were only in the house a year. Was pulling out of the driveway with the wife and kids when it hit right behind me as we were going up the road. Scared the crap out of us. Two seconds and I had a tree twisted off ten foot up and branches wind-driven through the house. Siding, chimney and roofing missing. Blew in the new garage door, dented my wife's car with a million little dents and tore up every screen on the house with the flying glass that I am picking out of the lawn till this day. We only lost one window, so I have no idea who's glass it was. Took out 11 trees in total. Not looking forward to ever seeing that again. And this was in NY.

What's up with you NOAH weather radio stations going out of service?
Since we get a big rain I get a loss of signal for my area, never checked before but I checked this time and it says the transmitter in this area is out of service, I depend on that damm thing if we have severe storms while I'm sleeping.
Seems like every time we have a run of heavy rain and storms first thing it goes out and I have no signal
So anyway I figured it was time to hook up a external antenna, I scrounged around found some connectors cable and an antenna and hooked up with external one and got a fairly decent signal from Detroit, maybe I should put my scanner antenna back up outside.
Anybody know how long it takes them to fix this stations.?

 

Forever! We had to use a station that was not even close and had a bad signal for the longest time. The radio finally broke and I never got another one. Couldn't get an accurate report from the station cause it was too far away, and then you couldn't even hear it. Like we were living in a third world country. Maybe it's time to get another receiver since its been a few years.

 

I went through a tornado situation in the middle of the night before without a weather radio alert, trees down, appliances fried, Plus furnace Motors, kids in the house, Fireballs shooting down the power lines, not fun, I decided I need to be aware and prepared ahead of time, the radio I purchased is old now but it works fine as long as the NOAA Weather Radio station is broadcasting and I have a signal.
There are lots of antennas you can use depends on how far you want to go, inside antennas, by the window, outside, in the Attic, lots of options, some easy not sound so easy, if you're in a fringe area, a small outdoor Scanner Antenna would do you good.
Yeah your receiver is only as good as your antenna

 

I had the inside antenna but the station was really far away and weak. It was the NYC one that was out, and that one gave lower Hudson Valley weather at the time. The one I barely picked up gave upper Hudson Valley info. I don't know, but assume they've got NYC up again. I'll check the listings because it is a good idea to have a weather radio again.

 

Weather radio is more than a good idea when severe weather comes while you are sleeping, could save your life.
