Went to HD today and got 12 bags of pellets. My intentions were to get the AWF brand while they have them.
However, when there, I came across two other brands I had not noticed before. So I came home with 12 bage of mixed brands. My wife looked at me and said "why? we have 3 tons in the garage" I replied, because, that what we do. She rolled her eyes and walked off.
ho yes, I did get more AWF

Can we get info/pics of UPC code off the green bag pellets....can't really see the name.

The HR pellets are pretty decent. Low ash, and good for most all temps except maybe the REAL cold.

Oh yeah...the ones from Alabama. I still want to know how they can ship them all this way and be that cheap. Or is labor/energy/production price in Alabama THAT much less?

I think it is HD taking a hit to make sure they keep their customer base happy. Here, they "promised" us they would keep them in stock.

Sounds like you've heard of them, any input on how they burn? And how do the Heat Resource compare with the AWF?

There is a review link. Typically, some like them, some don't. I rather read the reviews from our friends here that post fairly often.

The AWF are really good....been burning them the last few nights (low teens outside), and house is very warm & comfy. The HR are decent....maybe a step behind the AWF. They will be VERY good late fall/early winter pellets, IMO.

my initial read on the AWF is positive. Good heat, low price, burn fairly clean. I was told they are a 80-20 mix. And that is from a fussy stove!

I bought a bag of the Lee's to test/review but it's been so stinkin cold and didn't want to chance it if they burned like chit. Maybe this weekend, the temp is supposed to go up a bit.

Huntsville, AL to the Hudson Valley, NY is about 1000 miles.. I remember a CSX commercial saying that they can move a ton of freight 423 miles on a gallon of fuel. So who knows? Hedged fuel prices, filling empty rail cars or maybe like savemoney said they just want to make sure they provide the fuel their customers need.

Yeah, that may be what it costs THEM to ship it, but I bet the customer pays a LOT more.

So, I am on bag #3 of the OAK Heat Resource by Lee. They are burning HOT. a Outside is about 36, was cooler last PM, and inside is 76. We haven't been that warm in some time, but then it hasn't been that warm outside. So I am saying my observations are purely subjective. But here is the teller. I load the stove in the morning standing in front of it in just undershorts. It was too hot to stand close to the front of the stove. I usually don't notice that. That is my only scientific tool used!:fire:

When I burned with AWF , it was in the teens, now in the 30s. That is why I say subjective. After I burn the five bags I'll look back. I have some more AWF to burn. In either case, I am glad to see pellets I don't regret buying. I've had some decent pellets that were so ashy, I was always cleaning. Wife seems to be softening up to the concept of a better stove. I like the idea of the thermostat, and I like the idea of the agitator in the burning pot. Stove in in our family room, to be honest, I am the only one to use that room on any regular basis, so I don't care too much what the stove looks like. Funky log sets and curves and swirls don't impress me.
