We were in Crawford Notch yesterday. We almost went up Mt. Willard, but the hikes from Wed and Thurs did us in. It is beautiful there. I miss it already.
A Very peaceful hike....... We're home now, but here's a few more......... A stream at the beginning of the hike Above a waterfall......
Getting steeper, My son Matt, ahead, young and strong.... Dawn making her pretty self up..... Matt approaching the top, looking at signes of the first available views of the opposing range.....
Here's the last few.......From Dawn's vantage point.....I am making my way up here...... Last two from the summit!
I like that scramble up the trail. Gotta get all mountain goat to get up that one. We had a rooty one at Kinsman falls. It keeps you focused and balanced.
I love scrambling! We had a rooty section that I should have taken a picture of. Focus for sure, especially coming down. My knees aren't what they used to be, so trekking poles are my best friend in any descent. We we had a clear view of My Washington for about 2 minutes until the clouds came back around it's summit.
Here is a nice scramble at Ripley Falls in 2014. A nice in and out hike. Lonesome Lake trail from the Lafayette campground from last year. Another nice day hike. It levels off at the top for a bit through a dense forest before the lake.
Nice, I was just looking @ fishingpol pics of his trip and doing some planning! Getting High With a Little Help From My Friends today too!
Great pics guys! (And puppy dogs) I don't know, we might need to do an FHC presidential traverse next summer!
Interesting. That summit view Brian posted, the area in the middle of the valley floor is where we were yesterday and took this picture. Mt. Willard is the center granite face and Mt. Avalon is the smaller peak in the distance to the left of Willard. I read Willard has excellent views of the valley too. Dave, nice picture. The hounds look like they will be sleeping good.
Is that Saco Lake in the picture? The mountain to the right, we were back up in that area. The Rocky spur of Mt Field
I'm in! No dogs today? Is Avalon not dog friendly? I have trouble planning hikes and knowing whether I will be in too deep with the hounds, they are all pretty spry, but there are limits for them. I was reading about the Mt Jackson/Mt Webster loop near there, some descriptions make it sound a little too much for dogs, although after doing some hikes I had reservations about, I find most people overrate the trails difficulty.
The little pond is across from the Willey House historic site, down rt. 302 a little south in the notch. It is the Saco, just wider here. The granite face towards the left in your summit pic is I believe Mt. Webster, to the right of my pic not visible. This pic is facing east, across from the Willey house, is the granite face of Mt. Webster in your pic.
Sweet! The hike was dog friendly, but we didn't bring the pooches this time. We did the sugar loafs summits with the dogs last summer, read it was dog safe, but the ladder was a little tricky. DaveGunter, how far are you from the whites?
