With that truck you could definitely get you fire wood to your house quickly.......[/quote] And across any terrain
I did that with a friend and we cut for a solid day used my 18 foot trailer and filled it full. We were supposed to go out the next weekend and he was going to help me cut a trailer load....... Guess what that was almost two years ago and I cut by myself the following weekend and every weekend after that And not because I wanted to.
Wood hog? Definitely. But. 1)It's a non-EPA unit. 2)It makes a ton of heat 3)Radiant heat off the thing, especially the front, plus duct losses, kept my basement in the mid to upper 60s all the time. So, I was sending a fair amount of heat up the pipe, and wasting a lot of wood heating the basement that doesn't need to be that warm. A better furnace and well designed duct system would do a lot better than I was. It was cheap and did the job. I don't miss running down the steps all the time, nor do I miss setting an alarm for 3-4 am to chuck another load in it.
"Do you sell wood?","Why are you still cutting in the January cold/August heat?" "You know, that will rot before you burn it all...." Why do you have so much stacked in the backyard?" blah blah blah Believe me,I've heard it all over the years. If you don't understand, its not my problem you're ignorant.I quit trying to explain anything a long time ago....
Well it's easier to see a few dollar signs than it is to see the wood leave. I have next year covered and then some, plus a bunch to cut. We'll see how it goes. I like to think about selling stuff more than I like selling it.
Shoot everybody around here is sold out hippie. I've been asked twice in the last month by strangers if they can buy from me lol.
Then try to tell other wood burners how much better 2 & 3 years seasoned wood burns. Many here cut in Sept/Oct & start burning it when they get it home. Most get upset , huff up, & say. "I've been burning wood for 20 or 30 years, no way do yo have to dry wood that long" Any way, if folks ask I give them a straight answer, if they push I say "my new EPA stove needs dryer wood," & "can't sell any of he stacked stuff, it needs a couple years t0 dry for my stove to be able to burn it."' Of course the leave & mumble, "no way they'd have one of the new fancy catalytic stoves".
What makes me made is when you help someone out with wood, then they tell you it's to dry, the wood he had the year before (from someone else) was to wet. When I was talking to this person the other night, he said you must have lots of wood up, nope!
Of course they leave & mumble, "no way they'd have one of the new fancy catalytic stoves". Where hard work is involved, most shy away......or run for the hills. I have to stop now..........I'll get censured.
My basement stays at around 52 year round. So, my floors are cold in the winter. Solution: rugs and carpets. Well worth the cold floors. In the summer I have natural air conditioning. 95 degrees out, 72 in my house. I HATE hot weather. I will not insulate between basement an first floor. Of course, I'm not dealing with a 37 degree basement. That's COLD.
Lol, I completely agree with you....... I will go out of my way to help you and try to teach you the correct way to do things but if you are to lazy and or stupid to learn from your mistakes then its not my problem any more and you are on your own. That being said I have donated wood to youth group outings at church and helped out elderly people and have no issues doing that its laziness that I can't stand!
Same thing around here....... The normal guys who sell are completely sold out at this point. You will see some advertised but the prices are high
There's some suppliers here that have wood for sale. Most of it cut last week. There's a local guy that doesn't do it full time, but he cut's and sells real cords and he sells 2 year old wood for $260 a cord. ...and it's really 2 years old, but he can barely sell it.. everone thinks he's nutz!
Thistle, I started LMAO when I read your post, it reminded me of something that happened this past summer, I'll try to be short… I have a neighbor comes down occasionally to their "summer" home at the shore on weekends, They're from New York/Staten Island area. I had two+ cord of oak in the driveway and I'm busy as a beaver processing, C.S. etc… My neighbor with this huge suprized look on his face walks across the street and say's, "are you going to burn all that wood" ? well, immediatly I thought of Bill Engvals words, "HERES YOUR SIGN"! so I said to him, Nope I'm giving it all to the boy scouts so they can have some camp fire wood!…..
