Just finished my latest "whopper". It's almost 1am, but it's done. 30K+ sq./ft. residence, over 46 tons of steel beams alone, don't get me started on the columns.
I have over 100 hrs. in this thing, but better than a 50% chance of locking it in. Heh, if the guys in the shop knew what I actually do to keep them busy.......
Time for a burrito, bed, and do it over in 6 hrs. This has been a busy summer. JB

Caffeine going down. Looks like we going to get some more rain today. We need it, but the logging guys are going to be making more mud that way.

The pits at Nationals are great. When the crew puts their gas masks on you know it's about to get serious. All the newbies run toward the car smiling, then run away coughing and crying after they fire it up.

Well, less than a week left of holidays and I had to make a list of things left to do. I have been avoiding making a list - just took the days as they came. Mostly enjoyed the Blue Jays games - not last night though. We have been getting some awesome weather for this area. Overcast mornings with the sun coming out in the afternoon. Gardens are dry but you can work outside all day. Having read the posts from back east, we definitely are not getting 90+ weather. It might be getting up to 70 or 72 in the afternoon. Not as much wind so we aren't getting that cold breeze that makes you put a hoodie on.

I will miss the mornings with my tea and surfing FHC.

I manage a steel fab. shop. So after dealing with contractors and walk-ins for 9-10 hrs. a day, plus acting as shop foreman also, I go home and do the large project estimating. That includes most weekends also. Really burns you out after a while. But, it's gotta get done.

Long day today. But not complaining. Ive got tomorrow off. It's going to be too wet to work in the dirt if this rain keeps up tonight. I may have to clean the garage instead.:picard:

Did a little more trench digging at the cottage for a couple hours this afternoon/evening. A little over half way now! Maybe have power in the garage by the weekend!

    Oooh, so close! ;)
I thought maybe a builder because my FIL builds homes and he spends a lot of time drawing plans up, (oh, and he still does all his prints by hand...probably doesn't even know how to turn a computer on! :hair:) and then sometimes (too often) the "customers" go a different way :headbang:...so Beetle-Kill s post this AM sounded pretty familiar.

My wife and our great friend Keith(who also dropped the Bradford a few months ago Bradford Bye Bye.... | Firewood Hoarders Club )
spread ~21 tons of crush and run yesterday and today.... We've been trying to get a parking spot set up in order to get our vehicles off the side of the street, for some time.

My wife thought she could move stone with a snow shovel....short lived attempt.

It'll need to settle/pack, maybe add more, but for now, we're pleased, and thankful the job is (almost) done:yes:
    I love my wife:)

You know, for a job like that in the future. A local place has started renting these Dingo.... All types of attachments too. Never tried one yet. But they look handy. image.jpeg

Yesterday, or maybe day before, I moved some logs over to the processing area. I had intentions of using them for something but never got around to it. So firewood they will become. image.jpeg

:jaw: Wow, big props to MrsVW n Keith! That was lots of work! That will make for some nice parking (and wood stacking area )
I gotta agree with Gas though...those Dingos can be had for $50-$100 for 4 hours...and 4 hours would have been more than enough. I was looking to buy a used Dingo (but too pricey) for moving my wood racks around before I got my lil forklift.

Eric VW could the truck driver not spread as he dumped it? Just curious.
Give the wife a nice back rub. Shoveling 20 tons of stone is hard work.

    Also,
If we had a tandem to drop the load, he maybe woulda got caught in the phone line that runs parallel to the street we were trying to not park in anymore.....it's not a really large parking area, and I thought he'd end up dropping most of it at the back (to avoid the line) and thus cause nearly as much shovel time.
