Frustrating firewood conversation yesterday

    I have a neighbor down the road the was our small towns highway superintendent. He always got his wood from his workers cutting along the roads... didn't have to pick up a saw himself... His position just ended this January, so he knows I have 50 acres of woods here and wood ahead, so I'm waiting for a call that he needs wood... He rode by all summer in his 70 Impala muscle car going to Woodstock , NY with his wife like some big rock star while I was splitting wood... So he asks that's what he'll get,,, instead of playing you should have been cutting! Big time user! He always gets someone else to do his favors for him if he owes your something... I don't get involved with him on anything.... One time he rototills my garden sitting on his tractor, about 4 strips 70 feet long... He gets all done after about 20 minutes,,, I said I owe you one,, he says you can maybe do a tune up on my Chevy Impala Muscle car sometime... I said to myself , yeah right... Sorry I asked for a favor... Done with that guy if you know what I mean..... has zero skills yet wants big favors... So I'm just waiting for him to ask for wood...

    I would help with that all day! Our church does work projects similar to that and I love to help out with them

    Yeah I need to work on the basement it just stinks as the only time it really affects me is during the cold spells. Although it would probably heat even easier during the warm spells also.

    Here's a good response:
    "I won't sell you any but would consider a barter for a couple P/U loads,
    Say a 555 for 2 loads, 562xp for 3 P/U loads"
    That sound about right. ? :D

    $500 is too cheap.

    On CL this week is a guy selling year old oak logs being cut and split now for $300 delivered. I'd be at 6-700 a cord for dry ready to burn. Or go buy propane!

    Wait a minute!!!!!! You will be burning less than ideal wood this year yet think you might have wood to sell next year????!!!! Something sounds wrong here. You put a lot of work into that wood and you are definitely not far enough ahead to even consider selling any. Once you get 3 years or more ahead, then you could think about selling but I surely would not even consider it in your circumstance.

    I had to quote because by the time I got through reading all the posts, I had forgot who and what the original post was. :eek: That's what happens as you age....

    Certified, I also would have immediately answered NO. It's bad enough that he is lazy but then trying to say he likes to burn the fireplace at night to help with heating bills. Not only is he lazy but stupid too. PPP = PPR

    I actually sell very little wood and don't think I have for 2 years now but I have given a lot of it away. The difference is that those to whom I give are in need and for a good reason rather than being lazy. For example, this year we helped out a neighbor who had back surgery. I told him straight out he would not have to cut any wood this winter. Yes, he already had some wood ahead but he is a bit like us in that he cuts ahead of time. Those folks you don't mind helping out. In addition, I know he would do the same for us if that need was ever to rise.

    My sympathy button is broke Certifed106 for that guy you spoke too…:mad: All of us here on the forum and other places have enough" sense" to do what we need for us and our families;
    Maybe you should show him this forum, a little embarrasment :emb: may go along way… Then again he very well may just be stupid:confused:

    My sister and brother in law buy their wood one cord at a time seasoned and 99% red oak (yeah right) and wonder why I am years ahead. Tried to tell them they should do what I do and only hear they have been burning over 25 years (incorrectly I will add).. I always hear man we go through a ton of wood and know it's because their wood is wet and they have to crank it to get dried out.. They have a Harman TL-300 and have heard they are pretty efficient so the problem is their wood.. They can afford the wet wood so let em burn it all.. How many people do you know that have a Bentley speed convertible, large Hummer pickup truck, megabus luxury camper, new corvette every few years, and a barn full of Harleys lol..

    Edit, oh yeah I forgot they also have a Ford Raptor truck too!

    I still have my old hotblast furnace from TSC in the basement. I disconnected the ductwork, and use it when I want to do something down there. Or in weather like this. I've been burning a load in the morning and evening, and it makes a huge difference in comfort. Love the warm floors.

    I think the blowers are 550 cfm each, and it warms the basement up quickly. I see them on CL all the time, and it's a cheap option for occasional use, if you don't need something nice to look at.

    Well now that I know you have had a wood furnace what do you think of them? Are they as big of a wood hog as people make them out to be? People keep telling me to put one in but I really don't want to. My stove handles the house just fine unless the basement gets cold. I could probably just put a cheap freestanding pellet stove down there and heat it but I am really leaning towards a pellet furnace.
