That's good to hear. I have always wanted a 22 semi auto that reminds you of a larger handgun...not the 22 style target pistols. I have a bull barrel 22/45
I agree with what clemsonfor said, I personally find plinkers like the P22 and SR22 gimmicky. The accuracy wasn't that great on the couple I've shot and I didn't care for the size or all the plastic. My .22 handgun's aren't technically target models, but both do have the short bull barrel and I'd have no problem hunting squirrels with them. They are both easily the most accurate handguns I own which is important to me as I use .22's to improve my handgun skills, which carry's over the my larger calibers.
When the power goes out, and doesn't come back on, for weeks or months. Starving hoards and punks are coming to take what you have. See Ted Koppel's video on youtube "Lights out", ten thousand rounds is a minimum to defend home and hearth. There is no sense stocking food and water and making preps if others just come along and take it.
I'm still buying and buying and buying. Last week's haul was 65lbs of brass...mostly 5.56. This week's will be 16lb of rifle powder. lukem what did you pick up?
Can't take anything if they can't find it! Never keep all your eggs in one basket, or in plain sight. Well, except the dummy stockpile... they can take that. Always have decoys. Always have back ups to the back ups. Bury caches in clever hiding places away from your home. Even if your place gets looted and burned out you will not lose everything. Well, as soon as the signs point to mobs of looters coming my way I will trash my own area just to make it look like it was already hit. If needed I will bug out with my family. Prepare for the worst, yet hope for the best.
Two guns. A long one and a short one. One fires big bullets, one fires little bullets. Both made by Ruger. Both are black and green. Stupid OCD.
Got me one of those about a month ago I put a vortex 4-12x40, Warne rings, and a surefire brake on it. Sadly I haven't shot it yet. 308 win.
Cool. That's what I'll go with. I had to pass up on too many good shots last year with my smooth bore 870 express last year. I don't really trust it over 40 yards. This was a pretty cheap option compared to a good slug gun....
You being so close to boston Is scary I don't plan on standing my ground if that were to happen. I'm a good marksman but 10k rounds fire fighting is a lot of hooey. Planning and good neighbors/community will go further in any emergency.
I'm bugging in, where are are you going to go? I'm in a good place to defend, and most of my neighbors are armed. Safety in numbers. Here is thing, looters can't carry much ammo with them. They will be wasting their ammo fighting with other groups of looters on their way here. Consequently, they will not be in any position to fight a well armed group of individuals firing from fortified positions, at a minimum, they will move on to easier pickings. I'm not going to go into detail on plans, but their are some simple ways to fortify doors and windows.
I too plan on bugging in, but if we have to get out of Dodge we have plans. Like you, I never show my whole hand... or the aces hidden up my sleeves.
Picked up a kerosene heater for $30 today at the thrift shop, just ordered a replacement wick for it on eBay. Though firewood is my preferred fuel for heating and cooking, it is a great idea to have back up plans. I also have a propane burner camp stove. In a shtf situation, having alternatives that can be used covertly are a smart investment.
not sure my stash is any bigger, but my house is the bug out to place... too easy with my good neighbors to close all roads for half square mile.. spring out back is always running... those preparing have lists of what to bring.... the scary part is the military is advising then to prepare for looting scenario... history has taught me that the if you can't protect yourself.. you will be invaded...
I've got bug in and big out locations. I'll add that suppressive fire happens and ammo disappears fast. Training assumed. If you've left the bug in and have to defend the bug out, ammo is the last freaking thing you want to worry about. You've got greater problems to deal with.
In my case with a rural area, and well armed neighbors working as a team, cold tired, hungry & thirsty invaders are at a serious disadvantage when encountering well armed fortified defenders. Just saying.
I need to start replenishing my ammo. I haven't reloaded in about two years and my ammo supply has been greatly depleted. Last month when I went to Texas for training I shot up a full 30 cal ammo can full of 40. I keep buying primers, bullets, powder and brass when I find a good deal. I'm sitting in a huge pile of components. I've got a Dillon 550 to keep my handguns and carbines fed. I have a Forester CO/AX to keep my precision rifles fed.
