I've been reading the posts on here for about a year now and learned a ton, thanks for being awesome! I figured it was time I finally joined in. We bought our house last September and I've been remodeling ever since. The house is the reason I really got interested in burning wood; it has two centrally located fireplaces. I'm scheduling to get an insert in one, but will leave the other for ambiance. (pics to come) For now, i'll post a few of the hoard I accumulated over this past winter and will make a separate thread with the stories behind the scrounges. It's hickory, a mix of pines, red oak, osage and as of last month, Bradford pear. I have about 4 full cords unsplit and 3 split, stacked up at the end of the rows. I'm hoping to stack it up more neatly soon and get an accurate count of how much is there.
nah, we love pics and some one will identify type of shingles you have.. where your at an open fire place might be OK but up here they let more heat out then they make so most everyone does an insert!
Welcome to the site. Good people here. Get an insert and start saving you heating dollars. Gives you more to spend on firewood toys, errr tools.
Welcome! You will need to scrounge up some more pine for this winter. None of the other stuff will be ready. Do you have a moisture meter? Those are great hardwoods but they need lots of drying time. If you want to try and burn it this winter cut it smaller, single row stack, and top cover.
Hey Thomas, what took you so long? Just being a good student, huh? Glad you spoke up, and get to splitting/stacking soon. Even if not ready this year, you'll have a good hoard for next year!
Welcome, Thomas, to the forum that never stops giving! That's a good looking pile of BTUs, too. And all the experience here will insure that you get the best possible insert for your home. Happy CSSing. :stacke:
Welcome to da club Thomas, Rack Em stack em and keep on hoarding buddy You have questions? ask away somebody will know the answer to it
Welcome Thomas to the land of folks with too much bar oil and time on their hands, our friends and relatives may think we go "slightly" overboard. But we have each other here to tell ourselves we are normal. Nice looking stacks...... you're on your way.
